Unfortunately, we may be
losing our local NAACP chapter because of low membership.
For 23 years, the Dubuque Branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People has promoted racial harmony and social justice through educational programs, thought-provoking speakers and an annual tribute to Martin Luther King.
But unless the local group adds more members to its roster, it will be shut down by the national organization. Remaining members are conducting a frantic membership drive to add, not only registered names to its list of members, but people who will bring some time and energy to the group’s efforts.
I thought for sure there would be all sorts of nastiness in the comments section, but so far there's only one racist comment. Since it may be removed before too long, here's that one such comment;

ofkors anyone can be a member, as long as u swear to promote colored peoples' issues more than any noncolored persons' issues and concerns.....its a discriminatory organization aimed at taking away from noncolored and giving to colored, sort of like what obama tries to do
