DFL wins control of Minnesota Senate; House for first trifecta since 2014

The Minnesota DFL defied the usual expectations of a midterm backlash against the party of a sitting president, winning full control of the Legislature in elections Tuesday by retaining a majority in the state House and flipping the state Senate from Republican hands.

The GOP had hoped to win seats in battleground legislative races across the Twin Cities suburbs, which are usually key to control of the Legislature. But the promise to implement tough-on-crime legislation and offer big tax breaks with a large budget surplus didn’t lead to victories. Instead, Republicans were brushed back by Democrats in places like Coon Rapids, Lino Lakes, Blaine and Shakopee, where the DFL ran on protecting abortion access and pumping more money into K-12 schools.

Gov. Tim Walz summed it up as: “There is no red wave.”

Scott Jensen earns lead in Washington Post story.

The most telling GOP flip-flops and walk backs on abortion.

1. Scott Jensen

Before: The Minnesota gubernatorial candidate said in March, while vying for the GOP nomination, “I would try to ban abortion.” A month later, he was even stronger, making it a promise. Responding to Gov. Tim Walz’s (D) claim that Jensen and his running mate supported banning abortions, Jensen said: “No kidding, Sherlock. You’re darn right we do.” He added: “We’re going to get something done when we’re governor: We’re going to ban abortions. That’s really not news.”

Now: Jensen this week began running an ad stating: “In Minnesota, [abortion] is a protected constitutional right, and no governor can change that. And I’m not running to do that.” Jensen’s website has also changed its language on this issue. It previously said Jensen “believes in the sanctity of human life, from conception to natural death,” but it has now excised the “from conception to natural death” language.

MN GOP to vote on Carnahan ouster

The Chair of the Minnesota Republican party, Jennifer Carnahan, will face a vote of no confidence Thursday following calls for her resignation related to the federal sex trafficking case against her associate Anton Lazzaro.

Carnahan and Lazzaro previously co-hosted a podcast, and were often seen together socially. Carnahan has categorically denied any knowledge of Lazzaro's illegal activities.

Court records also show in December – at Lazzaro's downtown Minneapolis condo – the FBI seized his Ferrari, $371,000, 13 cell phones, computers and memory cards. Gisela Castro Medina, a 19-year-old college student from Delano who has been identified as the chair of the University of St. Thomas College Republicans chapter, was also indicted and made her first court appearance on Monday, Aug. 16.

She has taken at least $130k from Lazzaro and her husband USRep Jim Hagedorn has taken at least $31k from Lazzaro. In addition, she faces sexual harrassment charges from staffers, used Trump-style NDAs to hide her bad activity, and endorsed 'My Pillow' Mike Lindell for Minnesota Governor.

Attorney: Mike Lindell Among Those Who Paid To Bail Out Kyle Rittenhouse, Charged In Kenosha Protest

https://minnesota.cbslocal.com/2020/11/21/kyle-rittenhouse-charged-in-kenosha-protest-shootings-posts-2-million-bail/amp/

A 17-year-old from Illinois who is charged with killing two people during a protest in Wisconsin and whose case has become a rallying cry for some conservatives posted $2 million bail Friday and was released from custody.

Kyle Rittenhouse is accused of fatally shooting Joseph Rosenbaum and Anthony Huber and wounding Gaige Grosskreutz during a demonstration Aug. 25 that followed the police shooting of Jacob Blake in Kenosha. He posted bond through his attorney at about 2 p.m., Kenosha County Sheriff’s Sgt. David Wright said.

Attorney Lin Wood, on Twitter, claimed that among the people who paid into a fund to bail Rittenhouse out was MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell. Wood was already in the news earlier Friday after a failed election affidavit filed in defense of President Donald Trump reportedly confused the postal code for Michigan with that of Minnesota.

So there it is. My Pillow supports murderers.
