Renewable generation in the UK hit a record 144.7 TWh in 2024, increasing by 6.5% from 2023 and accounting for 50.8% of total generation - the first year in which the renewables share has surpassed 50%, government statistics showed today.

Wind generation rose by 2.1% to record 84.1 TWh, although offshore wind fell by 1.5% to 48.9 TWh due in part to a fault in one subsea export cable. The share of wind in total generation expanded by 1.4 percentage points from 2023 to 29.5%.

Solar generation increased by 6.5% to 14.8 TWh as increased capacity more than offset lower average daily sun hours.

In 2024, 4.2 GW of renewable power capacity was added in the UK, including 1.4 GW of offshore wind, 0.8 GW of onshore wind and 1.6 GW of solar photovoltaic (PV). These additions brought the UK’s installed renewable capacity to 60.7 GW.

Innovative Materials Corp. is proud to report significant hydrogen measurements from its St-Bruno-de-Guigues property in Temiscamingue, Quebec, marking an important milestone for the natural hydrogen industry. Recent testing from monitoring and measuring hole #8 has returned hydrogen (H₂ ) concentrations of 13,102 ppm (1.31%) and 12,873 ppm (1.29%) at a shallow 75 meters depth, comprising 69 meters of quaternary deposits overburden dominated by glaciolacustrine sediments (clays and silts). The last 6 meters intersect sandstones of the Lorain formation of the Cobalt Group. These results, achieved at sub-zero temperatures, represent a nearly 100% increase from previous record measurements (7,000 PPM H2 at 50m press releases on January 21, 2025) and solidify QIMC's position as Canada's leading and one of North America's leaders in the natural hydrogen industry.

President Trump made good on his promise to impose tariffs on foreign automakers, imposing 25% duties on all cars and light trucks not made in the United States, as well as "certain auto parts." The move sent shares of GM (GM), Ford (F), and other automakers sharply lower on Thursday.

GM shares tumbled over 8% in early trading, while Stellantis (STLA) shed nearly 4% and Ford dipped 3%. European automakers as well as Japanese and Korean brands fell on Thursday as well.

Though the new tariffs will hit mostly foreign automakers, domestic automakers, including the Big Three — Ford, GM, and Stellantis — are concerned about their impact too. GM, Ford, and Stellantis build vehicles in Canada, Mexico, and China, and they foresee higher production costs due to tariffs' effect on the auto supply chain.

Wednesday's tariffs seem to initially target only finished auto products, however the executive order and published fact sheet added parts like "engines, transmissions, powertrain parts, and electrical components" to the list of foreign goods subject to tariffs.

Tesla has been banned from upcoming federal EV rebate programs in Canada as the government freezes the suspicious $43 million in rebates that Tesla claimed days before the program was paused earlier this year.

Earlier this month, it was reported that Tesla claimed $43 million in government rebates from the iZEV federal EV rebate program in Canada just a few days before the program was paused due to a lack of funds.

The move was suspicious as it would have required Tesla to deliver over 8,000 vehicles at just 4 locations on a weekend, which is physically impossible.

The Satanic Temple (TST) will present oral arguments before a three-judge panel of the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals on Wednesday, March 26. TST is suing over Idaho’s abortion restrictions and how they impact the religious rights of our members.

TST argues that the state’s restrictions compel pregnancy that otherwise could be averted. This mandate, in effect, appropriates the womb on behalf of the state. TST claims this violates both the Fifth and Thirteenth Amendments as well as Idaho’s religious freedom protections. In addition, Supreme Court precedent affirms these same protections.

While this argument in defense of abortion access has never been tried, the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals agreed to hear oral arguments as opposed to dismissing the case, which is cause for guarded optimism.
