A man who became a fugitive after a federal jury convicted him of assaulting police officers during the U.S. Capitol riot was sentenced on Tuesday to six years in prison.
David Joseph Gietzen, 31, of Sanford, North Carolina, struck a police officer with a pole during a mob's Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol.
Gietzen told U.S. District Judge Carl Nichols that he didn't intend to hurt anybody that day. But he didn't express any regret or remorse for his actions on Jan. 6, when he joined a mob of Donald Trump supporters in interrupting the joint session of Congress for certifying President Joe Biden's 2020 electoral victory.
“I have to make it explicitly known that I believe I did the right thing,” he said before learning his sentence.

April 3 (UPI) -- U.S. District Judge Royce Lamberth sentenced Taylor James Johnatakis to 87 months in prison for his part in the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol riot, the U.S. Department of Justice announced Wednesday. Johnatakis, 40, of Kingston, Wash., was also ordered to pay $2,000 restitution.
A federal jury in Washington D.C. on Nov. 21 found Johnatakis guilty of obstructing an official proceeding, civil disorder and assaulting, resisting and impeding certain officers, which are felonies.
Johnatakis represented himself during the trial and at Wednesday's sentencing hearing while proclaiming he is a "sovereign citizen" who isn't subject to federal laws, NBC News reported.
Lamberth noted Johnatakis showed no remorse for his actions and expressed concern that he might employ violence again if given the opportunity.
Federal prosecutors said Johnatakis led other rioters in attacking a line of police officers who were protecting the Capitol.

Court documents obtained exclusively by DailyMail.com show that Loudermilk's wife, Sarah, 35, the mother of his three young children, filed for divorce on grounds of adultery last Thursday.
Loudermilk's father is fellow Republican and 'Family, Freedom and Faith,' Congressman Barry Loudermilk.
Now, DailyMail.com has learned, that not only has Greene's trusted sidekick been conducting an affair, he has been doing so with married Instagram influencer and 'homemaker' Katy Allan, 42, a woman whom his wife considered a friend.

Lindell denied in an interview with The Associated Press that the eviction was another sign of his money woes.
