***BREAKING*** CNN - Michael Cohen, long Trump time fixer, to sing

President Donald Trump's longtime personal attorney, Michael Cohen, is putting his loyalty to "family and country" before his old boss.
"My wife, my daughter and my son have my first loyalty and always will," Cohen told ABC News' George Stephanopoulos in an interview published Monday morning. "I put family and country first."
Cohen has famously said he would take a bullet for Trump and he has fashioned himself as Trump's "fixer," willing to help handle situations quietly. But the interview raises new questions about Cohen's allegiance to Trump amid his legal troubles and subsequent isolation from the President's inner circle.

In his new interview, Cohen refused to follow Trump's lead to cast the FBI in a negative light over April's raids on his home, hotel room and office.

"I don't agree with those who demonize or vilify the FBI. I respect the FBI as an institution, as well as their agents," Cohen said. "When they searched my hotel room and my home, it was obviously upsetting to me and my family. Nonetheless, the agents were respectful, courteous and professional. I thanked them for their service and as they left, we shook hands."
Cohen also pushed back at the President's recent tweet repeating Russian President Vladimir Putin's claim that Russia did not interfere in the 2016 election, as well.
"Simply accepting the denial of Mr. Putin is unsustainable," he said.

Cohen obviously cannot lie about criminal evidence found in his possession during the raid.

He could get a pardon, but the evidence remains. Could Cohen possibly have more information to give? You betcha. Will he give up that information? That is the question.

If he gets a pardon, that does not shut him up. As I understand it, accepting a pardon means an admission of guilt. As such he could not be charged or convicted on any of those counts covered by the pardon, but he sure could testify about it. The pardon means he couldn’t self-incriminate on those counts. His testimony could doom LOTS of vile people, up to and including his feckless lying treasonous former boss.

Sing, Michael! SING!

The way he refers to the FBI. He does not trash them even after they raided his various properties. He did not lambaste them as “jackbooted thugs” who “broke down his doors in the dead of night” or “stomped all over his privacy or his civil rights” or some such defensive persecution complex whining. “Courteous, respectful, and professional,” as he put it. They shook hands at the end. All was peaceable and very much above board and by the rules. No open posturing for combat. No in-yet-face. No “sez WHO” schtick here. He sounds like he’s clearly signaling he’ll be cooperative.

The FBI and prosecutors are likely gonna see that as a positive - a tip-off that they can do business with him and he’s not gonna be a jerk. He’s setting himself up as a sympathetic character especially toward law enforcement.

Too much damage has already been done to ever reverse fully in my remaining lifetime and, I fear, the greater share of my adult childrens’. Oh, I suppose there is always the hope that we take both houses in 2018, successfully delay SCJ nomination hearings in the meantime, are gifted a fully and clearly incriminating indictment of Trump, his family, McConnell, Pence, Ryan, Nunes and others; pass a bill that addresses appointments by a President who gains the WH via unlawful means by providing a nullification remedy; impeach Trump; and based on the new law impeach Gorsuch; and ... fat chance, huh?

... covering up Trump misdeeds were pretty standard methods, and would have never seen the light of day were it not for the intense scrutiny resulting from Trump’s election and the deep investigations and media probes. In other words, his veneer was designed to withstand a glance, not a study. It’s unraveling because no one - Trump, Cohen and/or others - ever expected Trump to be where he is and under such a powerful microscope, and more significant anti-detection measures were not taken.

He's always had his own "law firm" of corporate lawyers keeping tabs on all of his lawsuits. However Michael Cohen wasn't one of them, Cohen is/was his fixer.

He's the guy who handled the dirty stuff that real lawyers won't touch. I'm talking about the payoffs, the money-drops, stiff arming opponents in business and politics, etc. Even though Cohen has a law degree, he doesn't practice law for the Trump organization. Therefore - no attorney-client privilege except in a few instances that are being reviewed right now.

I agree that attorney client privilege might apply to the communications to the extent Cohen was acting in an attorney client relationship with Trump, or the Trump Organization. And to that end, the court has determined that much of Cohen's papers were not privileged, so interesting to see what is there.

Also, attorney-client privilege has liimits - doesn't apply to communications between a client and attorney for the purpose of committing, continuing, or advancing an illegal or fraudulent act. Also has other exceptions.

Good article on limits of privilege --

Trump is counting on people falling on their swords for him.

Here’s the thing: The GOP has hitched its star to Trump because Trump gives them what they want: isolationism and eradication of the New Deal. They will ignore the fact he has no morals and no principles beyond “what’s in it for me?” to get these things. But they can’t ignore the reality that the nation Saint Ronald called The Evil Empire manipulated the election to put Trump in office.

Given hard proof Trump is in bed with Russia, they’ll impeach. But right now they’re like a woman with a lump in her breast so big it’s visible through her shirt going to another doctor because “it just can’t be breast cancer. The nine doctors I’ve already seen, they can’t be right.”
