Truth will out - I'm betting that it's worse than we're hearing.

(6,410 posts)The only thing more sacred in Jordan's district than Trump and GOP is the worship of The Ohio State University sports programs. If there's a wiff that he compromised those "fine young lads" and didn't support them...he'll be bagging groceries in the Lima Piggly Wiggly before ya know it. They'll elect another red MAGA guy but it won't be Jordan.
At the Lima Piggly Wiggly.

(31,261 posts)The primary for Governor and US offices has already taken place. There is a woman opposing Jordan. If Jordan drops out of the race at some point, what happens?

(6,410 posts)From the Ohio Election Code.
2513.31(B): If a person nominated in a primary election as a party candidate for election at the next general election, whose candidacy is to be submitted to the electors of a district comprised of more than one county but less than all of the counties of the state, withdraws as that candidate or is disqualified as that candidate under section 3513.052 of the Revised Code, the vacancy in the party nomination so created may be filled by a district committee of the major political party that made the nomination at the primary election, if the committee's chairperson and secretary certify the name of the person selected to fill the vacancy by the time specified in this division, at a meeting called for that purpose.
My read: feels like the Republican Party up in OH-4 picks a replacement candidate. There were some other quirks if it happens within 10 days of the general but I don't think they will apply here. If he stays until end October, he'll be here for election day.

(31,261 posts)I looked at vote totals for the primary, there was one for each party, no one ran unopposed. The republican vote total was around 2x the Dem total, so we would need people to not vote for him by voting for the woman opposing him or not voting at all - which effectively is a vote for his opponent.

The thing is, the longer JimJo holds out, the less chance the repukes will have a chance to replace him on the ballot. It would be funny if they ended up with a Dem at the CD.

(7,513 posts)he lockered beside the guy. He was heard to make the statement if he came on to him he'd be sorry. I'd say that proves he knew.

(36,371 posts)This is different then the Penn State case where minor children were involved and more like Michigan State where the doctor was charged and convicted but there were no criminal charges lodged against anyone else at the school because the victims were all adults. Michigan State was sued and agreed to a 500 million dollar settlement for ignoring misconduct.
Jordan's in a tough spot 'cause even if he wasn't legally required to report, acknowledging that he knew but didn't act would be devastating to his current career (which would be mighty fine by me).
Blue_true
(31,261 posts)would hurt him at all. His voters would come up with justifications for voting for him. My sense is that he has a deeper reason for denying. He had a locker by the guy, did he stay there? Something just is not falling into place.

(34,507 posts)Tip of the iceberg:
https://www.wsbradio.com/news/national/congressman-jim-jordan-accused-knowing-about-sex-abuse-ohio-university-but-not-reporting/9KXrzgFeZKmXnlDQZPIYoK/
This and other reports say that OSU is investigating whether high school age students were involved.
And, unless you know what the university rules were and are in these situations, you really cant say whether he had only a moral responsibility. Note also that in my prior post, I didnt say anything about laws.
Kaleva
(36,371 posts)What are OSU's rules in regards to this? You didn't cite them in your post.
spooky3
(34,507 posts)To someone asking why Jordan wouldnt admit that he knew of the alleged abuse. My answer is not a pronouncement in the law but an explanation of why he would now be so reluctant to admit the likely truth.
Kaleva
(36,371 posts)You said he had a responsibility to act but cannot provide any evidence supporting that statement. I can make up stuff too.

(53,925 posts)but allegedly looked the other way as the doctor was the "candy man" on campus (supplied peds to the athletes).
That makes it even worse for toast Jordan, I mean Coach Jordan.
He is toast though.

(36,371 posts)If faculty and admin at MSU was aware or heard that Nassar was sexually assaulting minors, they were required by law to report it. Failure to do so could have lead to charges being brought against them.
brush
(53,925 posts)Jordan is more in the Joe Paterno categoryhe knew and looked the other way. It came out earlier here that the doctor was the "candy man" for the athletes on campus, which explains why he was tolerated by Coach Jordan.
That's even worse for Jordanlooking the other way on sexual harassment and wink-winking at peds for the athletes.
Kaleva
(36,371 posts)Even if he wasn't legally required to report it at the time, he can't admit to knowing about the sexual harassment and the handing out of "candy" to the student athletes and doing nothing about it without destroying his political career. So he's going to plead ignorance and hope this just goes away which I very much doubt.
brush
(53,925 posts)already come out and said he knew.
He'll be resigning in a week or so once the rest of the repugs put pressure on him so they can select someone else for the upcoming election.
Without enough time for the new candidate to get some kind of name rec. they could lose the district to the Dem.

(4,835 posts)Just had a few remarks from him on CNN...
They asked him if he knew the doctor - he acknowledged he did (how could he deny it!?) - but certainly didn't offer any defense of the guy - or remember him as a "good guy" or anything like that.
Sure seems like he knew something!
One of the victims has a criminal record - they're already trying to diminish his credibility.
But - I think the media has this story and is baiting Jordan - leading with the least credible victim - let Jordan attack and deny - and then walk out the more credible stories - and Jordan is toast.

Its not just the GOP... its mostly their base. Trump could go away but that deplorable base is still there like a rot.
