I remarked to him on the lack of frozen foods in the supermarket these days and our conversation went south real quick. A guy probably in his late 30s, been there for a long time, maybe took my questions to him personally. And somehow he managed to interject that he was a Republican. I was really surprised and showed it. I think he got a little annoyed with me because I said, "You're so lucky, we're in a blue state with the lowest number of Covid infections of any state." (except RI, I think) And, we have a Dem Governor.
Then he said derisively "Are you going to vote for Biden, a guy that raped 4 women?"
I was stunned and really angry all of a sudden and said "He did no such thing but Trump assaulted several women! Have your forgotten about "grab 'em by the you know what? And where did you read that?" He laughed!
Now I was real mad. The guy just thought this was fun.
"Well, then, why don't you just go and live in a red state and see how you manage without your union?"
I'm in that store a lot and I will make his life a little less comfortable from now on. I am so done with people who vote against their own best interests.

That said, you seem to have handled it great. You got your point across, and he couldn't get the last word in (only laugh - a de facto admission of defeat in any argument).
Not easy to manage.

(512 posts)As far as they're concerned, any day now, they're gonna hit it big. Gotta make sure they support laws that help millionaires now, so things are good for them when they make it. You know. Any day now. In the meantime they'll take all the benefits liberals want to provide them, then turn around and denounce us as commies/socialists.

(9,953 posts)let the manager know I didn't walk into the store to get lectured about Biden raping 4 women from some young man that doesn't know shit. Regardless a Democrat or a Republican, he stepped over the line as an employee. I use the same stores and always get to know employees and management and not with just complaining, but because I am appreciative of the help I receive. But this one, I would give the management an heads up. Not end of the world, or fire the dude, but have a conversation because I do not want to hear that shit when I walk in to do my shopping.
The employee should know that.

(9,953 posts)I would be totally comfortable just seeing a manager next time I walked in and really address it as a mere, heads up. But I would bluntly use the phase saying Biden RAPED 4 women. Because that was bold. It wasn't just a difference of opinion.
CTyankee
(63,926 posts)gotten tired of hearing customers commenting on the lack of stuff on the shelves. I wasn't really complaining but I can understand how he could take it that way.
I will consider what you have said. But I truly want the guy to understand that I wasn't in any way unhappy with him, just frustrated with the situation.
However, the suggstion that Biden raped anybody is so over the top he needs to be talked to. And I think I will do it, nicely but firmly. And I will suggest that what he said was quite incendiary and could get him into trouble (and the union he's in will defend him!). A word to the wise, I will tell him.
LizBeth
(9,953 posts)more empty than what we are use to. I tell myself, I am being a tad spoiled, but yes, an off hand comment that really has nothing to do with the employee.

(9,953 posts)privilege white woman speaking out that customer service employees thought was outrageous. Actually it started on a reddit board by a man pissed off at his XGF. Any middle age woman that says anything about anything can be defined as a Karen. The reality is using it for the vile racist women undercuts the real atrocity of using privilege to hurt black people with white privilege.
It's merely about complaining. It started with the complain-to-the-manager meme. It's often used for racists, but not always. For example, someone here got called "Karen" for complaining about all the fireworks in her neighborhood.

(63,926 posts)this is an old tactic. Attack the offense on something you've been criticized for i.e. sexually assaulting a woman. Only exaggerate it X 4: "Joe Biden raped 4 women."
I did make it very clear that he had always been pleasant and helpful in the past. Maybe, just maybe, he realized somewhere in his tiny brain that it was his political bent that got him into trouble. But I don't think so.
the real triumph will be will he sees me in the food store right after Joe wins in November.

(28,521 posts)I assume this dude is white. And even if he was black, spouting ignorant political opinions to a customer while on the clock... I don't think it warrants firing, but management really should know this. I'm sure the union would agree.

(999 posts)The worse thing than being a stupid moron voting for Trump is knowingly voting for someone who was not anywhere qualified for the job (nor the moral standards) to have such a consequential role in the future of this country, not to mention when that person also has ties to a historical enemy of this country..

(2,751 posts)any of the BS these propaganda outlets sling. If they did, they wouldn't have voted Trump. I'm not quite sure what their programming is, but it definitely is not the well being of this country or themselves.
A grocery store clerk or anyone else in that tax bracket or slightly higher has NO business voting for someone like Trump... ever. I have no idea what it will take to drill it in their stupid head that he doesn't give a fuck about them. I'd be willing to bet he thinks of them as scum. He has no respect for them! They are lower class than him and dumb ass lay-downs.
And their arrogance pisses me off! That stupid laugh that most of them have thinking they are in the cool kids club. I can assure them they are NOT!

(1,915 posts)I might have to rethink my vote for him now I was sure he raped a lot more than that. But yeah I'll be voting for the rapist and the hopefully at some point we can get a tape of him bragging about it and it gets released to his base cuz that will fire them up to vote for him.
You have to flip the conversation on these fuckers and make Biden a hundred times worse than even Trump and you're still going to support him. I'm not sure these dumbasses will know how to react.

They can't get defensive when you're blaming someone else for stupidity, it totally wrong foots them. I use it to make a clean getaway. You might use it to try to get through to them, be my guest, but there's usually not much there to get through to.
It's either that or be wide eyed an innocent as you start asking "I didn't hear that! Who did he rape?" and follow it up with a barrage of other questions that will soon have him realize he's really being had.

They don't understand how they're being used and ripped off and will dismiss anything you try to tell them. Their thinking is surrendered to hate media. Loyalty and devotion to the end. Fanatic crazy as we've seen previously in history.
Widespread propaganda for decades, racism, and division work and it's tragic, lethal.
