Army Chief of Staff Gen. James McConville said Friday that he has sought to ease allies' concerns about the U.S. military becoming involved in law enforcement actions in response to nationwide protests.
"As we talk to other countries and other militaries, we have that discussion to make sure they understand that the purpose of the U.S. Army is to protect the nation, not police the nation," he said. "We should leave policing the nation to law enforcement."
"When it comes to the military, we need to do the right thing, the right way, in all circumstances," McConville said in response to questions at a Center for Strategic and International Studies forum on the Army's role in the Indo-Pacific region.
He had been asked whether the turmoil across the nation is affecting the "U.S. brand" overseas and possibly raising questions among allies about military-to-military partnerships.

He may not have enough of them to prevent his defeat, but that we are even having these conversations is devastating evidence of how far the United States has fallen.
These units to be defunded and disbanded.

Really it's absolutely insane that General McConville has to say this. And does he know his boss has already threatened to send the National Guard to Portland as his next step?
"As far as employing regular Army troops" for domestic law enforcement, "that's only to be done as the absolute last resort. Even the National Guard should only be employed as a last resort," he added.

(8,368 posts)Who the fuck does McConville think he is trying to tell the truth on Army policy.
President Trump the Commander and Chief of the whole US Military is a graduate of the world rebound (and now shockingly Chinese owned) New York Military High School for the imbecilic children of rich people.
That faker McConville went to the United States Military Academy at West Point, another New York based military academy but clearly not held in the same regard as NYMHS.
Then this McConville character went on to spend nearly 40 years in the US Army (clearly unable to find another job) To rise to the be the General of the Army. What could he possibly know that POtUS does not already have at those little bitty finger tips of his.
Maybe General McConville should keep his uninformed opinions to himself and let the pretend soldiers set the world strait
Sarcasm thingy added.
