Trump walks out of news conference after reporter asks him about Veterans Choice lie he's told more than 150 timesTrump, speaking at his Bedminster, New Jersey, golf club, had claimed again that he is the one who got the Veterans Choice program passed -- adding, "They've been trying to get that passed for decades and decades and decades and no president's ever been able to do it, and we got it done."
In fact, former President Barack Obama signed the Choice program into law in 2014. The law, which allowed eligible veterans to be covered by the government for care provided by doctors outside the VA system, was a bipartisan initiative spearheaded by two senators Trump has repeatedly criticized, Bernie Sanders of Vermont and the late John McCain of Arizona....
"Why do you keep saying that you passed Veterans Choice?" CBS News White House correspondent Paula Reid asked Trump at the Saturday news conference, during which Trump announced executive actions on coronavirus relief.

(14,565 posts)They use that word all the time, particularly Don Lemon.
It is the reason right wingers laugh at MSNBC but are scared of CNN

(25,995 posts)I do read a fair amount though, and haven't noticed CNN or many other online news outlets using the word in print often. It's not that I'm particularly mad at CNN; they have been doing a much better job going after trump than MSNBC, especially lately, and it's always fun when the chyron writers decide to express themselves. It's just unusual in general to see the word 'lie' used outright regarding trump instead of something softer. It should be and I'm all for it when someone does.

(63,221 posts)If only more journalists would realize what national heroes they would be by calling him out on his lies and bullshit. They have nothing to fear. Their ratings will only improve.
This nation is dying for people who speak truth to power. Even their networks will have to admit that the popularity of those who demand the truth is worth the risk of pissing off the snowflake-in-chief.

(63,221 posts)However if enough of them band together and stop putting up with this shit, there won't be any White House coverage and their employers will not be able to get rid of them all if they have the support of the public behind them. Nobody wants to hear Trump drone on and on about the same thing over and over again. It is the opposition of the press that makes these appearances interesting and watchable.
We have the power to boycott any network that gives favorable coverage to the president and his henchmen and without a press to hold them accountable, they are not worth watching. There is nothing interesting about hearing a stupid old man repeat the same drivel. The opposition of the press, and the controversy around it, is what keeps people watching.

What a sad commentary though that it has taken this long for reporters to speak up.

(6,969 posts)"lie" unless the person who told it KNEW it was false.
In politics (and business),however, my standard is "knew OR SHOULD HAVE KNOWN."
And yes, it needs to be used more.

(32,640 posts)He replaced the Veteran's Choice bill in June with the VA Missions Act.
And it's lie that there was no Veteran's health expansion legislation passed for decades.
And of course a woman correcting him set him off.
He's losing it...
