(12,265 posts)We showed a good income in 2019, then I lost my job at the end of 2020. I hate these damn tests. I don't want millionaires to get any money but this is nonsense.

(26,045 posts)I've been retired from a "salaried job" for years, but my wife was employed by the federal government until she hit the retirement age last April. We had a decent income in 2019, but are now getting used to being seniors on a fixed income. Not to be whiny, but it will cause difficulty if they rule that we don't get the stimulus because we were earning too much back when we weren't both retired.

(11,155 posts)They haven't said it is "upper income."
This amendment had NOTHING to do with the initial cutoff for the stimulus, it has to do with the upper end of the cutoff, but that hasn't stopped people from playing telephone.
Again, Bernie voted for this - do you think he considers $50K to be "upper income"? How about Ossoff? Wyden? Any of the people being praised for pushing for 75K?
Or do you think they may not want families making $300K to get anything, especially since that was a big talking point in December?

(26,045 posts)Keep in mind that every American who found $600 pitifully insignificant, heard that an additional $1,400 was coming, then find out "oh, yes, there's going to be a new set of checks, but you earned too much (in 2019, when you might have had a job you don't now) to qualify, so other people will be getting the checks, but not you" is going to be one more person who won't be inclined to turn out in 2022 and 2024 on behalf of us (because, even if this was a "centrist" move, Democrats went along with it 100%, and they'll view it as a personal betrayal).

(2,113 posts)It's completely tone-deaf and there was no need for this. Repubs are still not going to miraculously join hands and sing kumbaya when the stimulus comes up for a vote.
So much for "go big"...

(24,398 posts)If you live in San Francisco - where you need to earn $157k to have the same buying power as that person making $50k in WV re: CoL adjustment - you dont get the $1400.
Having means testing WITHOUT ADJUSTING THAT MEANS BASED ON CoL is an anti-urban, anti-Blue state policy!

(938 posts)the amendment doesnt define upper income. So theres no raw number, yet.

(11,155 posts)Just like 50K, 75K, or whatever K weren't called "high income". People are throwing out misinformation and not paying attention to what was actually voted on.

(32,754 posts)So it could go either way by 5K to 10K.

(11,155 posts)Who wouldve squeaked in a little relief due to family size and the way the previous bill was structured.
I just cant believe that Bernie would do a 180, Biden would misjudge the temperature in the Senate, and Dem leadership would be so bad at counting votes they would bring this without any plan for it passing.

(7,027 posts)was no fucking Covid in 2019. I lost my job in early 2020 so my 2019 income means shit. People don't need help when they were working they need help for 2020. Are you going to determine whether restaurants need stimulus based on 2019 business ? Come on.
sweetloukillbot
(11,155 posts)This isn't saying that 50K or 75K is "upper income." It's targeting the people who made 300K and still got a few hundred - something that got a lot of attention when the House passed its $1400 bonus stimulus around Christmas.
Do you believe Bernie would vote for calling 50K "upper income"?
