One month ago, Today.

One month ago today, white supremacists and conspiracy theorists stormed the Capitol in an unprecedented act of violence and insurrection.

I just spent the last 1-1/2 hours reading AOC's account. A few things stand out:

- she began to get tweets warning her about January 6th, the week before

- the mob started congregating around the Capitol as early as Monday

- She was unsure whether the Capitol Policeman who came to find her was a good guy or a bad guy

- she hid in Katie Porter's office for 5 hours.

- not only did 5 people die, but 140 officers were injured. One officer lost an eye, another officer had two ribs broken. The officer who died was hit over the head with a fire extinguisher. Others were trampled.

- Josh Hawley and Ted Cruz have basically said that they would "do it again" i.e. tell lies and incite violence and that they have no regrets. To AOC, this indicates that they would put political expedience over the lives of their fellow Congresscritters.

This was a very well organized insurrection. The National Guard was told to stand down. The only saving grace is that the majority of the insurrectionists were not heavily armed. That would have been such a game changer.

Holding people accountable means presenting evidence that indicates guilt and having them serve time. I'm not going to say "presumed guilt" because they were on video. We know they were there, we saw what they did.

But holding people accountable also means looking at "the lie" that the election was rigged, looking at the perpetrators of that lie (Trump and others) and looking at how this lie led to insurrection. It was immoral and irresponsible. It was the work of an egomaniac sociopath - and he needs to be held accountable. People died.

We cannot just "move on" when people are dead, injured, traumatized. If we move on, we are diminishing what happened, we are diminishing the injuries, the trauma, the deaths. And we are saying that it was okay... and when we say that it was okay, we are saying that it is okay to try again.

It is very, very important that we hold Trump accountable. It is very very important that we hold Cruz and Hawley accountable. It is important that we identify those who did recon on the Capitol, telling the insurrectionists where to go - and we must hold them accountable.

We have a very awkward situation that is about to play out. The men and women who stormed the Capitol, by and large, will be tried in courts where the judge was appointed by Trump. I think they should recuse themselves. We have already seen a Trump judge allow one woman, after her arrest, to go down to Mexico for a retreat - she isn't a flight risk.

.This trial may last a while, or it may be very short. What is probably true is that the senators will vote based on their constituencies, and not based on the evidence. Because the evidence is damning. So, hope that the Republican constituents speak up, and tell their senators to hold Trump accountable. He needs to be convicted. He needs to lose the ability to run again.

something to consider.

I read an account that some of the capitol police had done service, and said that what they experienced on January 6th was worse than what they experienced overseas.

It is reading accounts like that that make me so angry that we're supposed to "move on".

A conspiratorial thought... maybe the insurrectionists had some sort of list of which Senators/Congresscritters were Republican Trump supporters and shouldn't be harmed... and maybe that's why Cruz and Hawley think it was no big deal and we should move on. Maybe they weren't scared/traumatized/at risk at all.

Metropolitan Police MPD were not told to stand down and they were the first to respond when the all assistance call went out. The USCP did have a plan to protect the people at the Capitol, and none of them were physically harmed ( there will be psychological issues for a long time) They had the great majority of their roughly 1850 cops on duty that day and many of them were injured while trying to protect the Capitol and the people in it. The plan they had and the intel they received was clearly flawed.

I am absolutely 100% in favor of following every lead, tracking down every person who was involved, charging them, putting them on trial, convicting them and sending them to jail, but remember, facts do matter. We need to make sure we are right in what we say.

Metropolitan on the other hand came with all hands when the building was over run. Many of their officers were hurt in the defense of democracy, I believe it was MPD Officer Hodges, the officer who was getting crushed in the door on the West Front of the Capitol who said "If it wasn’t my job I would’ve done that for free, It was absolutely my pleasure to crush a white nationalist insurrection … We’ll do it as many times as it takes." That is a Hero ladies and gentlemen, a hero.

You are right that no one in Congress was injured.

I am just angry that the insurrectionists could not be kept out of the Capitol building.

Along with the terror inflicted upon the people who were there and the people who saw this deranged armed insurrectionists mob attack Democracy, there were over 100 officers physically wounded and many more psychologically scarred. An officer was murdered, two committed suicide, others turned in their weapons to ensure they would not, one had vertebrae in his back crushed, one lost an eye one lost fingers many were beaten with clubs, pry bars, flagpoles, and boards torn from the inaugural construction. People ingested all sorts of chemicals from CS/Teargas, pepper spray, bear repellent, hand sanitizer, aresol sprays, fire extinguisher spray and smoke from fireworks and smoke bombs. The physical and mental effects of this will be felt for a long time.

Fuck the people who did this, and those who helped by planning, financing and supporting from afar.

Blue lives only matter when they were trying to control people of color and those who support their equality, but in reality, the fake blue lives, fake religious, fake patriot only cares about their own selfish warped sense of outrage against the world as it currently exist and continues to change.
