By Oliver Willis -February 8, 2021 11:24 AM
At least one Republican member of the House has been caught trying to take a gun into the U.S. Capitol since the Jan. 6 attack.
Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) claimed on Sunday that it is "unconstitutional" for security at the U.S. Capitol to screen members of Congress to ensure they aren't armed before entering the chambers.
Mace made her claim on Fox News' "The Next Revolution" while discussing enhanced Capitol security measures following the violent attack on Jan. 6
"As a matter of clarity here, there's nothing constitutionally that can prohibit a seated member of Congress from entering the chamber of Congress to take a vote," said Mace.

So lady, did you or did you not sign a letter that said the ballots for the last election should be thrown out, if so, then resign your election was a fraud, because in your mind's eye it was unconstitutional correct.
And I say that the second amendment is full of shit and that you have no clue what it means or says and its is unconstitutional , because I hate guns...........I really do..............and just a side thought if I bring a gun unto the property like let's say to the US capitol my ass gets arrested, what makes you and your psychopathic logic above the law............because your congresswoman.....find another day job, read the rules, just try a little bit............

(131,391 posts)As the Supreme Court recognized in Heller, guns have traditionally been prohibited or restricted in certain public places under federal, state, and local laws. These sensitive places include schools, government buildings and courtrooms, public transit facilities, airports, and polling stations.

I think that Nancy did the right thing. Double the fine and bring in a special, armed guard at the doors with enforcement powers. Too damned bad that their side incited insurrection, and this is the result. We just don't trust them anymore.

(33,554 posts)Someone may have read the following sentence in Article I, Section 6 to her:
They shall in all cases, except treason, felony and breach of the peace, be privileged from arrest during their attendance at the session of their respective Houses, and in going to and returning from the same; and for any speech or debate in either House, they shall not be questioned in any other place.
However, she needs someone to read, loudly, the following from Article I, Section 5:
Each House shall be the judge of the elections, returns and qualifications of its own members, and a majority of each shall constitute a quorum to do business; but a smaller number may adjourn from day to day, and may be authorized to compel the attendance of absent members, in such manner, and under such penalties as each House may provide.
Each House may determine the rules of its proceedings, punish its members for disorderly behavior, and, with the concurrence of two thirds, expel a member.
[ Emphasis added. ]
The House of Representatives has determined its rules and punishments, as provided by the Constitution.
