Almost half of the "jurors" 'cept for Ol' Mitt have said it doesn't matter what he did, they will not vote to convict. They are excusing an insurrection and attempted overthrow of the government by an attack on their own office building that they experienced last month.
Many of the republicans in the House and Senate still refuse to admit the outcome of the election, feeding into the delusions that sent people crashing the gates of the Capitol to (in their minds) save their country to begin with.
It makes me so fucking mad to keep seeing the videos from that day, combined with the words before and after by current office holders who aided and abetted this attack and attempted murder of governmental officials (and actual murder of law enforcement).
My wife is also watching the Handmaids Tale which ISN'T HELPING. The minority of this country who are white, republican, christians want to enslave or murder the rest of us. This was them trying to do it, and many of those who tried now get to be the jurors who decide the ringleader's fate. THIS is a rigged contest from the start, not the election they lost.
Now if you'll excuse me, I've got to go wrestle a talking lasagna away from the giant kilt-wearing koala who built a fort with the sofa cushions and take another edible, because this one clearly isn't working.

(19,205 posts)to remind every voter with more than two functional brain cells, that republicans did exactly that! They don't care about the Constitution or the country. They care more about party, or in this case ONE PERSON, than the citizens of our country, or the country itself. They own this, and they must wear this threadbare mantle forever.

(16,955 posts)That MUST be a message in the '22 campaigns - the law counts and dedication to your country and oath of office count.
As for watching - I'm with the OP - like the people in Kansas City watching the game from the other night - it'll only break your heart again.....

Its a great history and legal lesson, and you owe it to yourself to listen to our brilliant House Managers. Ive turned off Trumps lawyers for now.
If all youre looking for is a final outcome, youre missing the point. This is for history, and whether or not he gets convicted in the end (he almost certainly will not), history will convict him for centuries to come. Im for history.
Agree with you on every point.
