A striking part of this trial: President Trump refused to testify but his words are being used over and over again by Democrats to make their point that for weeks he set the stage for the January 6 attack and then on that day incited his supporters to storm the Capitol.

(16 posts)Canadian here. North of y'all, former Prime Ministers lose their title, but are properly addressed as "The Right Honourable...". I'm curious: do impeached Presidents retain the right to be referred to as "Mr/Madam or Ms (let's hope) President"? Thanks for weighing in!

(16 posts)I should think that, at a minimum, the taint presumably left on the office should follow the individual forever. Especially in cases where the offenses represent treason.

(3,636 posts)They decided not to subpoena him, so he's perfectly within his rights to decline their invitation. And if he did appear under oath he would be within his rights to refuse to answer any question rather than give an answer that might incriminate him. But the problem with not testifying is that you let the prosecution's evidence speak for itself without answering at all, and in this case much of that evidence is his own words.
