"Hustler" founder Larry Flynt has passed away!

Last edited Wed Feb 10, 2021, 09:48 PM - Edit history (4)

Controversial founder of the adult magazine was 78.

Story from NBC News

Updated to thread! I heard Trump in an interview a while back that he stated Flynt was a close friend. I am sorry if that is wrong and I should have clarified this when I posted this. I have no link and goes as hear say.

One of the great moments (if you can say anything was great) of the Clinton-Lewinsky scandal was Flynt's offer to Kenneth Starr. Flynt offered Starr a job writing for Hustler, saying that "The Starr Report" was the finest pornography he had ever read!

I wish the Mueller Report had been equally graphic. We might not be in the mess we're in had it been.

Larry Flynt was an unusual man, for sure. But he did what he could to attack political hypocrisy. More than most.

Flynt has passed away!"

THAT is what everyone is reacting to and was misleading as hell. Might Flynt have had a passing relationship with Trump 20-25 years ago? Sure. who didn't. But to say he was "a buddy with Trump" is simply not true. I cite his offer to expose Trump as but one example.

Both were workmates, on the SC with similar work backgrounds...
They just had very differences in the interpretation of laws obviously.

They grew up in the North East...
Both had similar education..
Both were appeal judges prior to the SC

There was mutual respect for each other...

It would be no different than Chuck Schumer and Mitch McConnell being friends..
However, the SC work is a bit different than always being oppositional to each other, as in the senate.

43. Hustler Magazine v. Falwell

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hustler_Magazine_v._Falwell

Hustler Magazine, Inc. v. Falwell, 485 U.S. 46 (1988), was a landmark decision of the United States Supreme Court ruling that the First and Fourteenth Amendments prohibit public figures from recovering damages for the tort of intentional infliction of emotional distress (IIED), if the emotional distress was caused by a caricature, parody, or satire of the public figure that a reasonable person would not have interpreted as factual.[1]

In an 8–0 decision, the Court ruled in favor of Hustler magazine, holding that a parody ad published in the magazine depicting televangelist and political commentator Jerry Falwell Sr. as an incestuous drunk, was protected speech since Falwell was a public figure and the parody could not have been reasonably considered believable. Therefore, the Court held that the emotional distress inflicted on Falwell by the ad was not a sufficient reason to deny the First Amendment protection to speech that is critical of public officials and public figures.[1][2] Constitutional limits to defamation liability cannot be circumvented for claims arising from speech by asserting an alternative theory of tort liability such as IIED.
