"We know Trump would want nothing less than to become Speaker of the House and RUIN President Bidens gun violence prevention agenda -- for REVENGE."

He is not going to sit still and be (if, Goddess forbid, he wins a seat) a junior senator and sit on committees and wait his turn to speak and so forth.

(15,208 posts)Plus he's thoroughly LAZY and being a Senator or Congress-critter involves actually doing work and showing up at your office before noon. Plus no Diet Coke button on your desk.

(10,188 posts)no being invited to G7 or G20 or other summits, no signing executive orders, no people treating him like he's important - his ego wouldn't stand for his being the junior senator from Wherever.

(2,337 posts)Former presidents do not run for a lower office. That'd be like a CEO taking a sale's job -- for what? Work his way back up? It's silly and stupid, as usual from these people.

But that was a long time ago, when book deals weren't a big thing.

(32,917 posts)I can't believe Steve Bannon would have ever said it or thought it. They're just looking for any desperate reason to ask the rubes for more money.

(15,208 posts)But that would be quite a feat. Take out McConnell AND Pelosi in one fell swoop!
I'm sure #45 could handle it though.

(32,917 posts)If Chump wanted to beat Pelosi, he'd have to run for a House seat, presumably from California. But he doesn't have a residence in CA, so it's not possible. If he did have a CA residence, Pelosi's district wouldn't elect him as their representative. Even if Chump somehow managed to get elected to the House of Representatives, he doesn't have any seniority over Nancy who is chosen as Speaker by the entire group of Dem representatives.
If Chump wanted to beat Mitch McConnell, he'd have to wait until the 2026 election. Mitch just got re-elected for a 6 year term. Mitch is in the Senate not the House, and Chump would need to have a residence in Kentucky to be able to declare himself a candidate in the race. Chances are good that McConnell won't be running again anyway, but if he does it won't be for 5.5 years.
Long story short, this is all crazy-talk.

(9,242 posts)1. Mitch is in the Senate, not the House, so defeating him would help Trump be Speaker.
2. Mitch was just re-elected, so hes not up in 2022 in any event.
3. Trump doesnt live in Kentucky, and wouldnt move there on a bet.
4. Trump wants nothing less than to become Speaker? So becoming Speaker is the last possible thing he wants in life, I guess.

(7,947 posts)And Mitch is senate minority leader... not speaker of the house.
Then again, why the GA GOP would raise money for another state's election... well, of course, it's not for a reason. They're just grifting off Trump's plankton.
Plus we all know now that Bannon's been saying for 3 years that Trump is senile.

(3,169 posts)Apparently, the House can elect whoever they want as Speaker, even someone who isnt even a member of the House. Can that really be true??
The story I read was more along the lines of: IF the Republicans retake the House in 2022, they should elect Trump as speaker so he can I impeach Biden for - something.
McConnell just won re-election in 2020. He wont have to run again till 2026, if he lasts that long.
