White House hits back at claims it is caging children of migrants two years after Trump scandal

The White House has hit back at claims it is caging children of migrants two years after the Trump border separation scandal.

-snip-
Jen Psaki defended the move from allegations of hypocrisy when asked by Peter Douchey of FUX Noise if it was just a case of “kids in containers rather than kids in cages.”

Ms Psaki refused to accept the comparison between the Biden administration’s approach to that of Donald Trump, which sparked widespread outrage.

“We have a number of unaccompanied minors, children who are coming into the country without their families,” said Ms Psaki at the daily briefing on Wednesday.

“What we are not doing, what the last administration did, was separate those kids, rip them from the arms of their parents at the border. We are not doing that, that is immoral and is not the approach of this administration.”

It's so easy to explain but if there are cages then no matter how you use them TlalocW Feb 2021 #2

Unaccompanied kids need to be taken care of and this solution seems the best of some awful choices.

They came without their families.

That's what's going on and it must be dealt with, in as humane a manner as possible.

You're being hypocritical.

Did Obama build cages? Yep.
Were kids put in those cages? Yep.
But these were unaccompanied minors found crossing the border. They were put into the facilities in cages or - from what I saw - cells with open doors, segregating the boys from the girls and the children from the adults. They weren't denied food, water, hygiene products, expected to take care of even younger kids, or subjected to abuse from ICE officials. They were kept there for 72 hours waiting for their parents to be found. After that Health and Human Resources took them to other facilities to try to find their parents or relatives on either side of the border. I'm not sure what else could have been done for them in their situation as well as location. They weren't torn away from their families like the previous administration did. Over 600 kids were lost in the system with no way to find their parents because of poor record keeping. Under Biden, in one month 105 kids have been reunited with their parents.
