General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsIt's becoming abundantly clear that MTG is not in congress to represent her constituents
At least they are not her major focus. She's there to, first and foremost, represent herself and her insane, vile beliefs, and then perhaps the constituents who believe the same. Anyone outside of that bubble, is, in effect, unrepresented. IMHO, of course.

Culture warriors rarely do well in the long-term. That's because cultures evolve.
MTG is an idiot and Time will not be kind to her.

(47,750 posts)find ways to make money off this gig of hers. She isn't interested in government. She is going out of her way to get a lot of media attention, that she can use later to promote herself in some regard - TV, radio, books, business opportunities. She's just another con artist.

(54,506 posts)I think she just did it for the thrill, and never realized that history depends on decisions made in the House. She seems to be in it just for the headlines.
I am in the process of doing my own tiny little contribution to her being owned, should have it ready in a few days, maybe less. She'll never suffer for it, but it will sure feel good! Maybe a few here in DU, too.
it was something that she will suffer from... she doesn't belong in Congress
DFW
(54,506 posts)But I fear that is about the extent of it.
However, I know that all Georgia Democrats in Congress will see it, and be humming it when she is nearby.

(58,785 posts)persona/following unrelated to her actual electoral position. Ocasio's rolling in donor money, far more than her own constituents could ever provide, and she gets press coverage that her minor role in congress doesn't begin to warrant.
We'll see others following this model.

(29,322 posts)East Coast bias is why AOC receives so much attention. First defeating Joe Crowley was seen as an upset which first drew a lot of attention. I doubt AOC expected all this attention herself. The New York media machine is a big reason why AOC gets a lot of attention. Fox News is part of that.
Same reason why Cuomo received a lot of praise and an Emmy for press conferences which the New York media machine covered and it is the same reason why there is critical coverage of his scandals and his approval ratings are falling.
AZ Governor Doug Ducey has done similar things but no one really cares.
Governor extends executive order that makes it harder for families to sue Arizona nursing homes
(Snip)
Arizona's nursing homes and assisted-living facilities have been especially hard-hit by the new coronavirus, with more than 12,700 people infected with COVID-19 inside Arizona long-term care facilities since March. More than 1,900 have died of COVID-19-related complications, according to an Arizona Republic analysis of county health and federal data.
The numbers, however, are certainly higher. The state has refused to release the number of cases and deaths in long-term care facilities, and some counties have only partial data that includes cases in nursing homes but not assisted-living facilities.

Personally I would support impeaching Doug Ducey but no one cares because of East Coast bias.

(58,785 posts)was promoted by NY-based national media, including those acting as RW agents to help take out a powerful Democrat.
Also that, even if the trumpists have gone crazy, it seems unlikely RW media will propel Soylent Greene to the kind of success Ocasio's having, but Ocasio's model shows there's a whole lot of attention and money to be gathered while she may anyway.
I suppose if NY-based national media went after Ducey it'd hurt him, of course, rather than just cover what's happening in AZ. But should they? That's AZ media's job, and AZ's people's. That's quite aside from the reality that Ducey is a Republican governor, giving him some protection from the MSM can do.
This topic reminds me fire season's ahead again in the west. We take both the NYT and the LA Times. Wild fires can literally be burning in the middle of Los Angeles and NY-based media won't cover it since they can't claim the fires threaten Malibu, apparently a trigger word for eastern readers.
