Vote counting in the union push at an Amazon warehouse in Bessemer, Alabama, is underway but a winner may not be determined until Friday.
By Thursday evening, the count was tilting heavily against the union, with 1,100 workers rejecting it and 463 voting in favor. The count will resume Friday morning.
The Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union, which is organizing the Bessemer workers, said that 3,215 votes were sent in about 55% of the nearly 6,000 workers who were eligible to vote. The union said hundreds of those votes were contested, mostly by Amazon, for various reasons such as the voter didnt work there or doesnt qualify to vote. The union would not specify how many votes were being contested.

Not legal to fire people for supporting a union, but since when does that stop companies?

Are they treated so well that they can live on their wage? Are jobs full time? Up north here Union workers live good.

(54,770 posts)6. Unionizing in a rural area where previous jobs were even worse than
those available through a new employer, is tough, especially in the South.
Weeks ago, 60 Minutes interviewed some Amazon workers at that facility. Opinions differed, but there was clearly the fear rightly or wrongly of Amazon or future employers avoiding the area. A shame, but how a lot of people feel.
Ill wait for final count though. Im surprised the on-going vote counts were released or leaked.

(77 posts)7. I admit
I havent read the whole article, but I certainly hope a third party, definitely NOT Amazon are counting the votes.
