A Florida college student has been charged with striking a Metropolitan Police officer over the head with a skateboard at the Capitol riots, according to a Department of Justice press release.
Grady Douglas Owens, 21, from Winter Park, Florida, was arrested on April 1 after being caught on bodycam video using his skateboard, which bore the phrase "White Fang," to hit a police officer over the head.
The officer, who has not been named, was left with a concussion and an injury to his finger, according to an affidavit released earlier this month.
The 21-year-old, who is a student at Full Sail University, has been charged with assaulting a law enforcement officer with a deadly weapon, and violent entry of the Capitol building, among other things. He faces 36 years in prison if convicted.

(34,140 posts)And completed his degree in recording arts. He'd hoped to get a job in Orlando, but the only one he was offered was in California. Since his entire family was on the East Coast, he didn't want to relocate there. And it turned out that he didn't like Orlando much so he moved back to the Tampa Bay area. He still does recording out of his home, but he also is working on getting his Captain's certificate - he got his First Mate certification last year.

To be fair, though, their recording degree program does appear to be well regarded.

It is also very expensive.
Having said that...the film industry doesn't care if you went to a university or not, they care about what you can do, and I should say that goes for most of the media industry...

(19,205 posts)how racist can people be? Not all of these people are what can be defined as "dumb", but they're certainly all racist. That's the trait Donald Trump brought out in his followers, and he made it seem, at least to them, that racism is acceptable.
But as we've seen through history that despots and wannabe despots often bring out a monster in people that wouldn't of happened otherwise with someone stoking the flames of hatred.
As Voltaire said "those who can make you believe absurdities can make you commit atrocities."

(3,012 posts)....that if any of these dead-enders put any thought into "what next," they must have assumed Trump would indeed end up inaugurated and pardon everyone. Meaning they have at least some grasp of the concept of "future," but lack the capacity to play out multiple scenarios.
That being said, most of these people are probably incapable of foresight of any kind.

36 years? that's more than mentioned in any other cases I've read. But I guess he might do 8-10.

(65,427 posts)How many crushing disappointments or lost opportunities could a 21 year old, who got into college have had in life?
It's not just that anger is misplaced, I don't even get why someone in his place would be angry about anything.

(26,361 posts)say that about most people.
After all he is rather young so instead I think 15 to 20 years of parole might be the answer.
In fact I would not mind seeing more long term parole sentences for a lot more people depending on the crime and other factors such as their age, mental fitness and criminal record for example.
After all our prisons are rather crowded now with some people serving time for non violent crimes so maybe the answer is in sentencing more people to long parole sentences.
That way they know if they commit another crime (and I dont mean getting a spending ticket) that they will be going to prison to serve the remaining time of their parole.
Furthermore they should look at instituting that for people already in prison depending of course on the crime they were convicted for in the first place.

(6,258 posts)Many people lose their ability to do critical thinking in a mob environment. They surrender to a sort of mob consciousness that is entirely irrational, and just flows with fear, anger, hate, and violence.
Although they might not like to hear it, the mob mentality allows the individual members to release their true nature to the rage of the moment.
All it really takes is s few truly evil people to steer the mob in the decided direction.
People like Trump, who incited the mob and sent them on their way. Of course he didn't go with them like he said he would...he isn't completely stupid, just evil.
ProfessorGAC
(65,427 posts)But, he didn't. Too late to blame the mob. He traveled hundreds of miles looking for trouble, and now he's found it.
