What does the GOP's success in Virginia mean for Florida's 2022 races?

Florida conservatives are cheering the Republican victory in Virginia, which could bode well for the Florida GOP's chances next year in a state that has been animated by many of the same issues, including education battles over COVID-19 restrictions and critical race theory.

"People are rebelling against what the Democrat Party stands for nowadays – the never-ending mandates and restrictions because of COVID, using our school system for leftist indoctrination rather than high-quality education," Gov. Ron DeSantis said Wednesday in discussing the Virginia election result on "Fox & Friends."

Not only does the GOP's win in the Virginia governor's race and a close contest in New Jersey, another state that President Joe Biden won big in 2020, provide further evidence that DeSantis and U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio have the advantage heading into their re-election bids, but the results have some Florida Republicans predicting a GOP sweep next year.

"Americans are wholesale rejecting the Democrat Party platform…again. Party like it’s 2010," tweeted Republican state representative and former Florida GOP chair Blaise Ingoglia, referring to the big Republican wave during the 2010 midterm elections.

Abbott is very vulnerable... It's local... He's just been a horrific governor.

I'm just sick of us getting our teeth kicked in there. The Senate is where its at - its dependent on the John Lewis VRA - and stopping any shenanigans that GA, AZ, OH, PA, and WI try to get up to in the State House.

The Texas house/senate will still be there in 2022 - doing their thing. We can't trust them.

In House and Senate when we followed Dean's approach to competing everywhere.

We can't flub real opportunities. Abbott is weak and if he hadn't gone full Trumpist he would not have even made it out of an R primary.

Beto is likely running soooo...

...manufactured crisis.

It was a narrow win which required them to put a ton of money into. Their hoping this improves their chances of taking the House back next year or maintain the Senate. TFG, Obama, Bush, etc. all lost their advantage after two years. Not doing that to Biden, would be a major blow to them.

Don't over react and keep the eye on next year. If anything, this showed us we need to refine our messaging. I think the GOP showed its cards a bit to early.
