Treason or something else?

As a small boy, I recall going to "church" where they handled snakes as proof of their faith.

The Preacher, Brother Baker, was going to hold one of the snakes over his head but was bitten on his hand.

To make a short story shorter, gangrene set up in his hand and he had to have it amputated.

However, until his dying day, he would never admit that it was the snake or his "lack of faith" that caused his hand to be amputated. It was the gangrene.

Similarly, the present insurrectionists and their accomplices will never admit that they aided and abetted in a treasonous act against our country. As the law is interpreted, those that aid and abet are criminally liable to the same extent as the principals involved in the act.

They will never admit to their crimes. They will never blame the snake or their faith.

That is the reality we must confront.

I thought my childhood going to the Baptist church was pretty crazy, with all the talk about sin and Hell all the time. It must have been pretty exciting, and pretty scary, when they brought out the rattlers. I've heard about the churches that speak in tongues and where people run all over the church during the service and fall down and writhe around on the ground when they get the spirit. But the snake handling is the wildest, I must say. I guess these churches want to be entertaining in order to keep people coming back. At least they don't put guilt trips on people like a lot of other churches do.

… only real goal was simply to acquire money and power. Being disloyal to the US was just an easy way to accomplish that goal. They’ve spent years disparaging the US government in every way they could, so what was really wrong with selling it out to get what they craved?

After January 6th, the days are gone when any Trump supporter can plead ignorance, they have to take a stand at this point.

Most Trump supporters are fully indoctrinated fools, like the snake handlers and those that speak in tongues and those that wash the feet of the saints. (I've seen all of that too, by the way). Trump cult members really, truly, believe the Big Lie, they accept every word that flows from the mouth of the Great Leader. Reasoning with these people is like debating your Brother Baker, or trying to compromise with a small child.

The remainder of the Trump supporters are liars - they know full well that there was never a question about the integrity of the 2020 election, but understand the power of spreading the Big Lie. Same as fascists have ever been - they smell the blood in the water, they see the light at the end of the tunnel, to reach their long held dream of implementing one party autocratic rule in the USA.

You last statement really sums up the problem - about half the people in the USA that don't even bother to vote have no clue where this is going to go, or what the reality is that they will have to confront, once the rule of law has been dumped into the trash-bin. Many Democrats that do understand this seem to be like deer in the headlights.

One thing is for certain, Trump and his followers have no idea what will happen once they destroy our system of free and fair elections and attempt to implement a fascist state here in the USA. The idea that this is going to be some sort of bloodless takeover is ridiculous. Chaos and anarchy will follow, there is little doubt about that - how will Americans confront that reality?
