Peter Navarro said he wanted Trump to fire Fauci saying 'strangle that baby in its crib'

Former trade adviser Peter Navarro has made several disparaging comments against Anthony Fauci and former White House chief of staff Mick Mulvaney while promoting his book.

In a 24 November appearance on Steve Bannon’s show War Room: Pandemic on the far-right news website Real America’s Voice, Mr Navarro said he had asked the former president to fire the country’s top infectious diseases expert over the handling of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The show has been known to give a platform to several conspiracy theories, including QAnon, during the pandemic.

Mr Navarro claimed to have told Donald Trump to “strangle that Fauci baby in his crib” to prevent a “Churchill with Hitler” situation in the White House, adding that the country’s top infectious disease expert was saved by former White House chief of staff Mick Mulvaney.

But I've no idea what 'a “Churchill with Hitler” situation in the White House' refers to, or could even mean.

Say that one postulates that the Trump inner circle saw Hitler as the good guy, and takes for granted that Churchill saw Hitler as a dangerous enemy early on. The Trumpanzees saw Fauci as someone (Churchill) who realized a danger (Hitler) and wanted to act on it way before the Trumpanzees thought it advantageous to do so. If the Trump team saw the spread of the virus as something they could somehow turn to their advantage, then the last thing they wanted was someone in their midst who advocated early prevention or (horrors!) eradication.

I wouldn't know how else to make any sense whatsoever of such a statement.

that wanted war. That is interesting. I'm taking it as TFG as Hitler and Fauci as Churchill. Odd that they just go ahead and admit it now.

Having seen a bit more context, it looks like a half-baked substitution in a half-remembered quote.

Churchill said rather famously in the days after the Great War that Bolshevism ought to be strangled in its cradle, and did what he could to commit English forces to bolster the Whites against the Reds. Navaro, having no more than the usual hazy idea of Churchill as the pre-eminent enemy of Hitler, and recalling a striking figure of speech, slots in 'Hitler' for 'Bolshevism' and proceeds, casting Trump as the Churchill who wanted Hitler strangled at the start, and Dr. Fauci as the Hitler to be strangled.

It should not be necessary to point at great length to the complexities of Churchill's attitude to Hitler, but he did not advocate strangling him in the cradle when the man was in it.
