He knows that his positioning is critical. He wants to give Trump NO reason to claim victimhood before he's named as a defendant. Trump still commands a large presence. My further guess is that Tribe is mistaking Garland's control of the narrative as a lack of courage. The DOJ has now served notice to Trump and his inner circle that they can expect a confrontation. I believe that the subpoenas will begin very soon.

The Biden Administration is now going on the attack. Garland's message will resonate, and Biden will amplify the resonance. Then the J6 Committee will drive the point home every day that they are holding televised hearings.

Biden will be attempting to drive a wedge into the GOP. He wants to separate the Trumpers from the "patriots." He needs the voting rights legislation and if he can get enough votes to stop the filibusters, he'll be happy. He'll deal a blow to Trump's domination of the media and the GOP while moving his agenda forward. Once the polls show a significant loss of Trump's support, Biden will start to appeal to non-Trump GOPers as preservers of democracy. Marginal Trumpers who leave him could be as few as 5% and that alone will cause a Democratic landslide. Trump will pull his Washington supporters into the ditch, isolated from the rest of the nation.
