(CNN)An Indiana lawmaker is apologizing for saying teachers should exercise impartiality when teaching about Nazism or fascism.
During a committee hearing Wednesday on legislation regarding how certain lessons are taught in school, state senator and bill co-author Scott Baldwin said, "I have no problem with the education system providing instruction on the existence of those 'isms.' I believe that we've gone too far when we take a position on those 'isms.' As it relates ... we need to be impartial."

(2,403 posts)In my opinion there is no way for him to make the statement that he made accidentally, or misspeaking, or anything else. You cannot say something like that and not have some seriously fucked up views behind it.

(48,075 posts)The Nazis invaded Poland and killed all the upper class and educated Poles, along with the Jews, minorities and the ill.
They left only the poor to live who would be used as slave labor.
The Nazi crimes against humanity can never be described in neutral terms.

(48,075 posts)Hitler made known his hatred of Jews. He scapegoated and blamed them for what were Germany's faults, starting and losing WWI which left Germany devastated politically and economically. So the cabinet ministers came up with a plan for mass murder.
Initially, as the Nazis invaded an area, the Nazis would round up the Jews, men, women and children and have them dig a huge deep trench.
The Jews were forced into the trench.
German soldiers would then line up to shoot all of the Jews and then cover up the trench with dirt.
However the German soldiers became distressed at shooting so many people, including women and babies. So eventually the idea of killing camps came into being.
How in the hell can any of this be discussed in neutral terms.

Hitler "lost favor" after WW2 ended, but the strain is obviously alive (and well?) in present-day America.
