Michigan gop chair caught on audio admitting drumpf behind fake electors

https://www.wxyz.com/news/new-audio-reveals-michigan-gop-co-chair-was-asked-by-the-trump-campaign-to-fake-elections

(WXYZ) — Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel says she wants the feds to prosecute all the people who conspired to try to make Donald Trump the winner in the presidential election in Michigan and 6 other states.

New audio emerged from Michigan Republican Party Co-chair Meshawn Maddock claiming the Trump campaign encouraged efforts to give him the state's electoral votes, according to CNN.

The 16 people in December of 2020, including Maddock, tried to enter the State Capitol and pose as official electors to certify the election for Trump.

They signed documents and sent them to Washington to try to sway the certification.

I believe the phrase I'm looking for in the prosecution of these miscreants is "to the fullest extent of the law." I'm not much of a fan of exemplary justice, but this is a case that cries out for the law-breakers to be made an example of, so that these maniacs think better of trying this little stunt again.

Hiss got 5 years for perjury and the Rosenbergs were executed. All this in the 1950's, an age some recall with poignancy. If "conservatives" want to return to the good old days, this is their golden opportunity to put up or shut up. Like most people, I'm all for letting bygones be bygones, just so long as they've actually gone by.

According to the "certificate of ascertainment" article, everything is "sent". In the early years this required
someone on horseback because that was the only means available. Today we have email, fax machines and
the USPS. The electoral college is seriously outdated.

It's undemocratic and gives the Republicans a built-in advantage, just like the Senate does. The E-V needs to die, but because they can't win without it, that's not gonna happen. They'll never agree to the constitutional amendment.

And there should be one charge of voter fraud for every vote they tried to steal - because that's what they tried to do: Steal those votes. To make it a little more clear, let's say there were 8 million votes in one of those states and 5 million out of those went to Biden, then should be 5 million charges for voter fraud.

Repeat that per state.

Make the charges stack high and the punishment harsh as a result so that these clowns don't EVER think about trying it again.

This goes way up the food chain. If they're going cut the head off this thing, they're going to have to make the case way more than air-tight. It has to be hermetically sealed.

(Personally, I also think the closer this all goes down to the midterms, the better.)

....if that's what it takes to put Trump and the hairy organism living on his head behind bars, yes.

Prosecuting the low-level flunkies is trivial enough. They can do that now. But if we want to hold the entire operation accountable, we'll have to bring the higher-ups to trial. IMHO, the evidence we've seen thus far probably wouldn't lead to a conviction, given that high-end defense attorneys will be thrown at the case and the jury will have to be comprised of people who can plausibly claim impartiality - and at this point, most people with a working forebrain (such as me and thee) want Trump and his symbiont thrown in the sneezer for the rest of his life.

Republicans did learn one thing from Watergate - how to shelter those at the top from prosecution. They pulled it off with Iran-Contra, the invasion of Iraq, and the crash of 2008. So far, it's worked with the orange entity controlling Donald Trump - someone with no functioning conscience and no concern for whether he's telling the truth about anything. On top of that, they've rigged large swathes of the federal government, along with many state governments, in ways that will make anything but the densest iron-clad case go anywhere.

I want Trump, Trump's family, Giuliani, Meadows, and those in Congress who promoted their fraud thrown in the hoosegow as strongly as anyone else on DU. But I also want to make efforts to put them there don't faceplant.

Most people eventually learn that the first response to finding oneself in a hole is to stop digging. The next step would be to contact an attorney.

These people appear to think it's more important to get a bigger shovel.
