We are now set up like dominoes. Ebola or something like it shows up and we are toast.

Republicans in congress will not give emergency powers to the president. No chance of that. Fox News will tell Fox News lies. Idiots with guns will refuse to wash hands, isolate or wear masks. Grocery stores will empty and pray it doesn't happen in winter or the heat of summer.

On the positive side, there won't be anyone changing the channel to Fox after their audience is eliminated.

This thought brings me no joy. My wife and are in the right area of Texas to insure that we will pass away in the first wave. If that doesn't kill us, the survivalists with guns will see our Prius and decide we caused it.

1. Many states have stripped public health officials of power

No more lockdowns, no quarantines

Experienced people were driven out of the profession after being threatened by RWNJs.

Something like smallpox with a 30% fatality rate would destroy us.

But yeah, our health care system is in tatters & until we get more dems in congress, our government is broken & beyond fixing it.

situation ... having watched the moronic response many have had to COVID. And, it had a vaccine. Imagine something with no vaccine and so contagious hand washing and masks provided moderate protection. COVID has been bad enough, but far worse will likely come along some day. The GOP has stripped the US of so much logic and intelligence. And the stupid media, for example, Fox News, etc. will amplify all of the lies and distortions. The US is being ripped to shreds from within. ... while individuals like Rupert Murdoch, for example, haul cash to the bank.

All future crises will be weighed against what's the larger political opportunity. "Don't Look Up" indeed!

Right now, houses are being bought at speeds that are unprecedented.
This is a great time to be a realtor. Since Covid kills the old, it frees a lot of property. At a time with a glut on the market, the speed of purchase is still at record levels.

Those who invested when Galveston was devastated, made fortunes when it recovered. For the folk with money to invest, Covid is better than a neutron bomb.

When you are filthy rich you know that fighting with the filthy rich can be expensive, those folk will cut you. Much easier to watch the poor fall and fight each other while your people loot the remains and hand it all to you.

The president already has emergency powers that are difficult to remove by congress (and the Dem congress likely wouldn’t anyway).

Ebola, while it has a high fatality rate, is far less contagious than COVID (there was a scare back during Obama’s tenure, but only 2 died.) It’s far less of a concern than another Delta or Omicron variant.

American Democracy is indeed on life support, and living in Texas, I can understand your despair…perhaps some time outside in the fresh air away from the poison on the internet would do you some good.
