Last week, committee member Rep. Jamie Raskin told Dean Obeidallah in a Salon Talks interview that the planned hearings have been pushed back to "later in the spring, April or May more likely." Raskin blamed the delay on people like Trump's former chief of staff Mark Meadows for doing the "hokey pokey." Meadows, who has been refusing to cooperate, received a referral for contempt of Congress in December. Democrats are not rising to the moment. It's been seven weeks and Meadows still has not been arrested by Biden's Department of Justice.
So we're going to go authoritarian because we can't keep someone from doing the hokey pokey? JFC.

Is this to get the DoJ to jump in?

(3,435 posts)The best time for the critical information to come out in public hearings is in late summer or early fall before the elections. Be patient.

The Rethugs are already over halfway there (as there is no way we can pull off hearings 60-90 days (or even closer) to the actual elections without risking being perceived as attempting a ploy (likely by Independents, who we are already getting just hammered by in the polls) designed to spin the election.

Ill gladly support Dems when I see them doing what they are supposed to do. Trump should already be in jail. The stalling benefits only Trump.
Now, can you please go get your video game and go back to playing? Some of us choose to live in the real world.

I can see why you dont understand that concept. Your comment tells the story!

(15,707 posts)Remember, by the time the televised hearing begin, most of the cooperative witnesses will have already testified. The televised hearings wont likely reveal anything new, but will allow the committee to present a comprehensive summary of their investigation.
Also, theres a theory (from emptywheel?) that the longer the delay in handling Meadows contempt referral could indicate that Garland may just go straight to a grand jury with a more serious (seditious conspiracy?) superseding indictment
remember, lots of lower level aides (especially Pence staffers) who were in the room when the coup was being developed have been talking to the committee.
Also, Meadows was connected to the fraudulent electors scheme, and that investigation is just getting going

(4,913 posts)I also believe the committee's open hearings are being delayed because they keep finding more evidence, which is a good thing.

(32,821 posts)If not, Not doubt they will have the DOJ appoint a special prosecutor to finish. They have no intention of letting their findings be swept away by a gqp controlled house.
