Huge letdown election for Republicans in state legislatures:
@Taniel finds GOP picked up just 22 seats nationwide, mostly in places where partisan control was never in question. GOP failed to flip any statehouse chambers, Democrats flipped four.

(19,246 posts)Dems getting back so much control in the states is a huge deal.
This will have national implications in 2024.

This is what "fair districting" helps to do - get rid of the GOP's insane partisan gerrymandering and start facing reality.

(10,130 posts)While I think gerrymandering should be illegal, if Democrats need to do it to elect more Democrats to the House, and to state legislatures, then so be it. We need to play hardball.

(32,843 posts)... there are 3 special elections coming up early next year and all of them pertain to Allegheny County (Pittsburgh) districts.
Tony DeLuca passed away in October, and it was too late to replace him on the ballot. Voters in DeLuca's district elected him posthumously rather than allow his seat to go to the Green Party candidate. (There was no Republican candidate in that race.) So this seat will require a special election in Feb. 2023 to elect a new Representative.
Summer Lee (PA-12) gave up her PA house seat in order to run for US Congress in the newly redrawn 12th District. It requires a special election to replace her at the state House. Austin Davis gave up his PA house seat (representing McKeesport) when he was selected as Josh Shapiro's choice for Lieutenant Governor. Most likely the special elections for these 3 seats will happen quickly, and candidates will be announced soon.
In all likelihood, these three house seats will remain BLUE, but we should not take anything for granted.
