Headline:

Judge Sanctions Kari Lake’s Legal Team, Which Includes Alan Dershowitz, for ‘Recklessly’ Filing ‘False, Misleading, and Unsupported’ Claims in Election Lawsuit

The attorneys being sanctioned are not directly named in Thursday’s order, but according to the court docket, Harvard Law School Prof. Alan Dershowitz is Lake’s lead attorney in the matter. Also on her legal team are co-lead attorneys Andrew D. Parker, Jesse Hersch Kibort, and Joseph Alan Pull of Minneapolis. Further listed as a member of her legal team is attorney Kurt B. Olsen of Washington, D.C.

Parker, Olsen, and Dershowitz signed the original complaint, an amended complaint, and a opposition to a request for sanctions.

Those attorneys are presumably the ones sanctioned on Thursday for filing a complaint by Lake and Arizona State Representative Mark Finchem (R-11), another plaintiff.

The same legal team represented both plaintiffs, the docket indicates.

Actually, as officers of the court, they have the responsibility to refuse to take some actions.

I did a deep dive into this a year & a half back.
He was never worth even half of that. At no time.
And, as he's mothballed assets when volume plummeted, the value of the company fell.
The company had a peak value of $150 million, with a D/E of barely under 5. Hence, assets were $26 million.
He owns 70%, so around $18.2 million. But, there's a personally backed loan of around $3 million. So, now something over $15 million.
But, it didn't hit those values until 2019. And, cash flow spiked in 2016. Before that the company was marginally profitable.
Sales volume peaked at $152 million with operating margins of 24%. (It's not an efficient operation. ) So, There was $37 million before SG&A, debt service, capital reinvestment & taxes.
Given that the company only existed since 2009, there wasn't time for him to accumulate $60 million.
This is a combination of public information & financial information not readily available but to which I have limited access. (I can only access 30,000 foot info, not ledger entries or anything that detailed.)
This is the same guy who edited his own Wikipedia page to add a net worth, after doubling it & adding a zero.
Nothing about him is real.

The court will not condone litigants ignoring the steps that Arizona has already taken toward this end and furthering false narratives that baselessly undermine public trust at a time of increasing disinformation about, and distrust in, the democratic process. It is to send a message to those who might file similarly baseless suits in the future.

Love the terms, "false narrative", "baselessly undermine", disinformation about...democratic process," "to send a message".

26. Lake, Finchem attorneys ordered to pay Maricopa County's legal fees for failed lawsuit
Fri Dec 2, 2022, 07:58 PM
Dec 2022

This makes me smile. After the abuse of the court system by TFG and election deniers, courts are quicker to assess legal fees and to consider sanctions for attorneys stupid enough to take these cases.

https://ktar.com/story/5372179/lake-finchem-attorneys-ordered-to-pay-maricopa-countys-legal-fees/

The attorneys for Kari Lake and Mark Finchem were ordered Thursday to pay Maricopa County’s legal fees for a lawsuit filed on behalf of the Arizona Republican candidates that a judge said “lacked an adequate factual or legal basis.”

Judge John Tuchi said the lawyers for Lake and Finchem are to pay fees in the April suit, which asked a federal court to bar the use of tabulation equipment in the recent midterm elections.

Tuchi also admonished Lake and Finchem but decided that their actions didn’t rise to the level of warranting sanctions.

But she's still playing this role of being a "provocateur," or basically, a screaming banshee.

47. The order is directed at her attorneys and expressly does not impose sanctions on Lake.
Sat Dec 3, 2022, 02:58 PM
Dec 2022

From the court's order:
"Here, while there are reasons to believe that Plaintiffs themselves contributed to the violations of Rule 11(b)(3) in this case—including that they themselves apparently have voted on paper ballots, contradicting allegations and representations in their pleadings about Arizona’s use of paper ballots—there is not a sufficient record that compels the Court to exercise its discretion to sanction Plaintiffs under that part of the rule. Thus, although the Court does not find that Plaintiffs have acted appropriately in this matter—far from it— the Court concludes that sanctions are warranted only against Plaintiffs’ counsel, who signed and filed the offending papers. To sanction Plaintiffs’ counsel here is not to let Plaintiffs off the hook. It is to penalize specific attorney conduct with the broader goal of deterring similarly baseless filings initiated by anyone, whether an attorney or not."
