Twitter has been an effective vehicle for disseminating important information instantly. But as Elon Musk drags it down to another version of 4chan, I can't see all the various organizations who use it wanting to be associated with it. I know that some advertisers have left already, but they'll come back unless the users dump it as well. When will more organizations realize what's going on and search for alternatives?

(3,634 posts)The final dam collapse won't be because of people who are ideologically opposed to what the site owner stands for, it will be because the site has become practically unusable because of the exodus of other critical people who were ideologically motivated, invasion of trolls and disruptors who are not being moderated, and basic infrastructure collapse. It will be an accelerating process. The fact that it is already noticeable at all means it is underway and probably couldn't be stopped even if Rocket Karen had a Saul on the road to Damascus moment and immediately started trying to fix all the things he's broken. I don't think it's there and may not get there for a month or two, but it will go from the maybe it is or isn't collapsing stage to final implosion in a matter of two or three weeks at most. And there's no way it takes as long as six months. By June, Twitter as we have known it for the last ten years will no longer exist, and Eloon will be trying to figure out how to make payments on all those loans.

(13,366 posts)I never really used it, so disconnecting was no issue for me...
Those who are "influencers" etc will have to figure out of they can migrate to another platform and still keep their popularity. I would love to see some bigger names do it and say "I'll see ya on ...."
But what would people use? tick tok? Instagram? I hesitate to bump Insta since it's part of the "Metaverse" but it's better than FB I guess.
I really want to delete all my social media, but there's so many people I am connected with that I wouldn't have known but for similar interests, writing groups, fandoms, old HS friends that I'd lost touch with until the last reunion, etc.
That said, I'm also a Gen Xer and so according to my kids, I'm a Boomer for using FB at all

(32,111 posts)Since Musks dramatic takeover, Twitters monetizable daily user (mDAU) growth has accelerated to more than 20 percent, while Twitters largest market, the US, is growing even more quickly, according to an internal FAQ obtained by The Verge that was shared with Twitters sales team on Monday to use in conversations with advertisers. Per the FAQ, Twitter has added more than 15 million mDAUs, crossing the quarter billion mark since the end of the second quarter, when it stopped reporting financials as a public company.

(6,002 posts)and immediately doubles-down by welcoming Nazis back to Twitter with open arms.
He's a warped individual who prolly thinks he'll be appointed head of Space Force if he can build up support for fascism in 2024.
Not sure there's any other explanation for why he'd buy Twitter for $44BN, then run off most of the revenue.
One of the major investors is Saudi, so maybe Musk is being paid to undermine American democracy.
