The report confirms a ProPublica and Texas Tribune investigation that found the privately built fencing could collapse during major flooding. The federal government resisted making the findings public for more than a year.
According to the report, the fencing doesnt meet basic international building code and industry standards and has a foundation far shallower than border barriers built by the federal government.

(53,949 posts)bereft of sound policy/ideas that the trump admin was. I say leave the remnants where they fall as a testament to the debacle that trump's administration was.
I believe less than 100 miles of actual new wall was completed on our 1900 mile border with Mexico and much of the money raised was grifted by trump-connected construction companies and criminals like Steve Bannon.

We built the wall, and now we will add to it. Now, we built the wall we completed the wall and then we said lets do more, and we did a lot more."

(6,845 posts)The Fisher Family company that put that up got the contract only because Trump lobbied for them to get it. AND I recall back at the time they were buying a condo in Trump Tower.
A blatant kickback to Trump, if it did happen. They were basically a sand and gravel company and did not know what they were doing.
Shoddy construction.

(6,679 posts)It will pad a lot of pockets. Gov Abbott screwed Texans over and stuck us with even more of the bill.
Youll love this part-
In order to pay for his new strategies Abbott signed into law a bill increasing the budget of border security to $1.88 billion, tripling the states usual expenditure on border security. This will be used along with the $1.05 billion package the state government promised towards border security in the spring, totalling nearly $3 billion in border security.
Roughly $750 million of the budget will go towards border wall construction with an additional $250 million already allocated as a down payment from this past summer. Abbott plans to use the funds as a starting point to construct 733 miles of barriers. Governor Abbott has also opened up crowdsourcing in order to help cover costs for the border wall, receiving about $54 million in private donations mostly from one donor: Timothy Melon, chair of Pan Am Systems.
