Leaked Kremlin poll shows 55% of Russians want to see negotiations with Ukraine to end the war

Putin's Ukranian war is becoming unpopular in Russia. At some point, Putin will have to either end this war or face the consequences

https://www.businessinsider.com/leaked-kremlin-poll-55-of-russians-want-talks-end-ukraine-war-2022-12

Support for the war in Ukraine has reportedly plunged within Russia, per leaked internal polling data commissioned by the Kremlin and obtained by the independent, Latvia-based outlet Meduza.

The survey, conducted by Russia's Federal Protective Service (FSO), found that 55% of Russians favor peace talks with Ukraine. This represents a massive shift from an FSO poll in July that found just 32% of Russians favored talks, according to Meduza's reporting. The polling, which Meduza said was designated by the Kremlin for "internal use only," also showed a major drop in support for the continuing the war among Russians between July (57%) and November (25%).

Meduza noted that FSO's polling did not waver significantly from publicly available data from the independent Levada Center, which conducted a survey that found 57% of Russians on some level supported beginning negotiations with Ukraine. Meanwhile, Levada found only 27% expressed support for continuing the war.

Russia's unprovoked invasion of Ukraine has been devastating to the Russian military and seen Moscow isolated both economically and politically, but publicly criticizing the war that the Kremlin insists is merely a "special military operation" could land Russians behind bars.

I would bet the ruzzians pumped this out just to muddy the waters to get Ukraine/NATO to the negotiating table to buy time.. I just don't believe them.
LIke you said.. Just go back to the pre 2014 borders and pay for the damage....

Indentured to clean up. Reparations will bankrupt Russia as it is.

And so long as we do, the Russians cannot and will not win. They can damage the country, but they cannot win the war if America continues to support the effort.

If Russia does not pull out within the next year, their economy will be in the toilet for decades. They will experience a brain drain that will knock them behind other developed countries.

8. I wonder what they think there is to negotiate?

There is only one thing to negotiate: how fast the Russians should go home. They marched in, killing locals, destroying their houses and their infrastructure, kidnapping their citizens, stealing their property, and grabbing their land. I’m sure the Ukrainians will offer something reasonable in return, such as a pledge NOT to attack and destroy houses, schools, hospitals, utilities and people on Russian territory.

Sounds reasonable to me—if ALL Ukrainian territory, including the Crimean peninsula, is returned.

It is a very Russian way of "taking care" of leaders that make a mess of things.

15. A curious feature of a government that isn't popularly elected

The folks in power don't care much for polls and suchlike. They rule by force, not by the consent of the governed. I'll grant you that a democratically-elected government can act in opposition to the will of the people, but it's a tricky proposition to do so, since the next election can turn out the incumbents. But a dictator only has to worry about someone else amassing enough oppositional force (whether it's a majority of the populace, or an armed force, or some other method of deposing the dictator) and the will to use it. Opinion polls are little more than white noise, easily ignored.
