In state after state, the final turnout data shows that registered Republicans turned out at a higher rate and in some places a much higher rate than registered Democrats, including in many of the states where Republicans were dealt some of their most embarrassing losses.
Instead, high-profile Republicans like Herschel Walker in Georgia or Blake Masters in Arizona lost because Republican-leaning voters decided to cast ballots for Democrats.

(18,672 posts)So are a lot of her progressive Millennial and Z friends. They live in a red state were you have a choice between a hardcore asshat Republican or a batshit crazy fascist Republican so they have to weed out the latter in the primaries. You have to be registered to vote as a Republican to vote in their primary in this state. She and her friends vote for the Democrat in the elections. A lot of younger people are doing this in blood red states.

(129,911 posts)is that the stats for voter registration then make it look like the GOP has this oversized base of support and the media runs with that narrative of "Democrats losing registration advantage" when in reality, the whole registration process belies the actual party policy support and vote choices come election day.
I know for years here in PA in the Philly rim counties that at one time were all red, in order for a Democrat to actually "live" in a community, they "had to" (defacto) register as a Republican, despite the fact that they were Democrats and were planning on voting for any and all Democrats on their ballots. And that was because of the intimidation that went on (e.g., threats to "delay" police and/or volunteer fire department response to a call to their homes or they would be issued picayune/nuisance "citations" about their property like their grass was "too high", or their sidewalk had "a crack", or trashcans (against their house) were "not secured", etc.).
Eventually as more and more bucked the "system", these counties went purple and are now light blue, where Democratic party-elected officeholders have increased exponentially. And this was in places where you have those who were previously "apolitical", "apathetic" and even downright "fearful", who have finally been willing (and able) to have their voices heard.
I know this has been posted many times on DU regarding how many Democrats who live in red counties, feel neglected by Democratic politicians and candidates who figure it's not worth their time to campaign on those locations. But as we have seen with this year's midterms, doing just that has been successful to get enough enthusiastic Democrats stuck drowning in red locations, as well as disgusted Republicans and Indies, to come out and vote for a Democrat.
