JACKSONVILLE, Fla. The News4JAX I-TEAM has been asking questions as to why a prominent local political donor had badge access to Jacksonville Sheriffs Office headquarters and multiple other locations for five years.
JSO confirmed last week that Kent Stermon, who visited JSO buildings hundreds of times in that span, was under investigation in the weeks leading up to his apparent suicide at the Mayport Post Office in Atlantic Beach on Thursday night. He was 50 years old.
Four sources told News4JAX the investigation into Stermon stemmed from sexual misconduct allegations.
According to a log from JSO obtained by the I-TEAM, Stermons access card stopped being used just a few weeks before his death.
Stermon was linked to campaigns for Gov. Ron DeSantis, former Sheriff Mike Williams and current Jacksonville Sheriff T.K. Waters.

(51,274 posts)Influential Republican donor Kent Stermon, who died last week, used a personal badge to access Jacksonville Sheriffs Office buildings more than 700 times over the past five years and on at least 25 separate dates in 2022, according to records obtained by Jacksonville Today.
Those numbers, released last week, disproved two years worth of blank Stermon access records the Jacksonville Sheriffs Office provided to Jacksonville Today in June. When asked this week whether JSO intentionally created the false record a violation of Floridas public records laws the department blamed the inconsistency on a software issue.
The departments failure to produce accurate records before Stermons death raises new questions about the departments relationship with Stermon as well as the publics ability to obtain reliable information from the Sheriffs Office.

(19,204 posts)knows that it's the most crooked, dirty, and intertwined operation in the U.S.
This was true even when Democrats ran the state many, many years ago, but to a much less degree. Since republicans have taken over the state it's become exponentially worse. Of course, republicans have raised dirty politics to an art form.
You can be assured DeSatan's reach stretches into every law enforcement department, every state, county, and most local government offices.
Florida politics are a swamp full of vicious snakes, and no one, even those on the same team, are safe when the Governor wants something done, or someone persuaded.
The southwest has it's deserts, and many, many holes have been dug there. Florida has it's swamps and underground aquifers, and many, many people have become food for it's wildlife there.
What's seen and reported about Florida politics is akin to an iceberg: you only see 10% of what's actually there. It's bad. Really, really bad.
