Boehner gets emotional in Pelosi tribute: 'My girls told me, tell the Speaker how much we admire her

Former Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) got emotional as he relayed a message from his daughters to Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) at Pelosi’s portrait unveiling Wednesday.

In his remarks he lauded Pelosi for her two decades atop the Democratic caucus.

“You’ve been unfailingly gracious to me, to my family and, frankly, my team here in Washington. And Madam Speaker, I have to say, my girls told me, ‘tell the Speaker how much we admire her,’” Boehner said, choking up at the podium.

“If you couldn’t tell, my girls are Democrats,” he quipped after the crowd applauded.

In recent years decency and decorum have become lost arts in GOP circles. I would never in a million years expect that sort of tribute to originate from a Newt Gingrich or a Kevin McCarthy.

Boehner's handover of the gavel to her was totally classy. Rigt or wrong, he looks so much better when compared to ... well now.

people on opposite sides who used to respect each other. Even if they'd have knock down drag out fights.

Boehner's girls are smart, too. (Democrats!)

remember when we use to call him "Boner", though.

It seems like he misses the repubs of the past and he certainly respects, Nancy Pelosi or he wouldn't[ be there.

TY! And, Thank Goodness Hakeem Jeffries is stepping up to be the new Now Minority Speaker of the House.

While he was Speaker, he blithered “job creators” instead of “wealthy people“ so many times, there’s no way he didn’t have a wire in his ear feeding him constant reminders to parrot the talking points.

I guess he decided to become a human being after retiring from Republican dinner theater.

seemed to happen when he was talking about his own life.

This time, though, he seemed genuinely affected by how much of an impact Nancy Pelosi had made on the lives of his daughters, and wanted to make sure Nancy knew what that meant to them. I don't think he manufactured the tears today.
