(2,824 posts)The NFT, electronic trading cards were set up as a money laundering scheme to begin with. Any idea how that would work?

(33,662 posts)Say Trump sells you some Classified Documents. You can't just give him $1 million with raising questions . But you buy 1,000 worthless NFT cards that cost Trump close to noting to produce (probably an Indian art farm made them for a few cents). You have just "legitimately" transferred $1M to Trump.

(4,574 posts)if so, I wonder why it was done with all the publicity surrounding it and with the garish absurdity of the "product" for sale? It seems to me the same end could have been accomplished by much quieter and less bizarre means but, with Trump involved in it, who knows?
Maybe he tried to accomplish both - money laundering and publicity.

(47,211 posts)Now I know next to nothing about NFT's, are people saying this is some kind of anonymous way to transfer money. So we just have to guess what happened? I've never been one for unsubstantiated conspiracy theories.

(34,126 posts)some priced as "buy it now" below the $99 purchase price.
Seems kind of silly - assuming they are real.
