Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has accused Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelensky of "lack of understanding of the gravity of the moment and lack of concern for his people."

"He does nothing but bubble ideas," Lavrov said in an interview with Belarus 1 television channel in Minsk on Monday, later picked up by the DPA agency.

According to the head of Russian diplomacy, the Ukrainian leader's ideas in turn reveal "the racist character" of the Kiev leadership.

At the same time, Lavrov verbally lashed out at the West, stating that the "hysterical reaction" to the "special military operation" - as the invasion of Ukraine is called in official Moscow jargon - confirmed Russia's opinion that the war had been "absolutely necessary".
