Elon Musk says Twitter is preparing to delete 1.5 billion inactive accounts to free up dormant handl

https://www.yahoo.com/lifestyle/elon-musk-says-twitter-preparing-114506420.html

"Elon Musk said Thursday that Twitter will soon delete 1.5 billion inactive accounts.

He said this would free up "name space" — dormant Twitter handles attached to the accounts.

Users often complain that inactive accounts have desirable handles snared in Twitter's early days.

Twitter is preparing to delete 1.5 billion inactive accounts to free up dormant handles, or user names, on the platform, owner Elon Musk said Thursday."

"A key division of Elon Musk’s Twitter has reportedly been gutted, just weeks after the San Francisco tech company’s staff was already slashed (and days before Christmas). Engineers in Twitter’s infrastructure division were laid off via an emailed notice Friday evening. "

These are the people who keep the blinky lights on.

I've had an account for years but I don't tweet or retweet. I check in and read multiple times throughout the day.

Occasionally I've read and liked some posts and once in a very rare while, I'll comment on a post. I've never cared for Twitter and would not miss it if it should disappear tomorrow. To me, it was a horrible idea that just got worse over time.

I rarely retweet because I don't have many followers.
I really don't like twitter and use it mainly for breaking news AND to tag elected officials.

my regular account. I didn't have any tweets on it until a couple of days ago when I tweeted something nasty to my regular account, just to test something. Hopefully that will save it. It got 6 likes BTW.

Having to create a new password just I can quit

Wish other sites would do this instead of e-mailing decades after signing up for a single purpose and not going back

I've never had a Twitter account.

And I don't feel like I've lost out on anything.
