"SNIP.......
Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY), the leader-elect of the House Democratic caucus, lit into his Republican colleagues.
Said Jeffrries: Look at whats happening right now. House Republicans are attacking Senate Republicans. Senate Republicans are calling House Republicans silly and immature. The leadership situation is in chaos.
He added: Marjorie Taylor Greene is fighting with Lauren Boebert. And George Santos appears to be starring in the sequel to Catch Me If You Can. And its not even January 3rd.
More: The circus has already come to town. Chaos, crisis. Confusion and craziness. Versus Democrats who deliver for the American people.
........SNIP"

(58,785 posts)others are backing away as quietly as they can from plans to have the GOP's attempted coup d'etat in the nightly news for the next year and more.
Then there's the big division between the MAGAs and their plans to attempt another coup in 2024, with tRump or a replacement, and the less-crazy seditionist leadership's quiet movements to join us in bipartisan legislation closing the main holes the insurrectionists used in 2020.
It's not as comprehensive as what Democrats tried to pass (but the people in their wisdom didn't give us enough power to do), but reports are it'll probably happen and do some serious shoring up. I read the anti-tRump faction will claim they're doing it to keep Democrats from mounting a coup and style their cooperation with us as "owning the libs."

(46,127 posts)If they can get organized enough to conduct investigations.

(58,785 posts)but Fox'll make sure that's done.
Seemingly *Hunter Biden's Laptop* is already baked in. Not sure if it's they or us who will end up winning that degrading throw, though -- already partially successful as a somewhat mainstreamed smear for them, already a pathetic joke of a trumped up scandal that may well backfire on them for us.
Polls show that people still like Biden despite 4 years now of intense bombardment with lies.

(32,100 posts)God knows how long they'll be fighting over that. May they self-immolate, and may it be quickly.

We may have an entertaining side-show gunning its engines.

(19,982 posts)he's utter sniveling crap. So their process is starting on their high water mark, and if they pick someone else it will be someone further down the scale. It definitely won't be anyone better/serious.

(8,102 posts)I don't even think there's a mechanism that can be used to force George Santos to resign. I mean lying seems to be the norm for some of these shameless republicans.
I wonder if a recall could be organized by his Democratic opponent???

(1,654 posts)The only recourse before the next election is if he resigns.

(8,082 posts)They'll probably still say that democrats are in disarray because the republicans haven't chosen a leader in the house.

Nancy Pelosi was the most effective Speaker of my lifetime (Sorry, Tip). I hope Jeffries gets the gavel in two years. Or even this year if the GQP can;t get it together.

(14,583 posts)The Dems have to stridently clung to the old unspoken rules of discourse in congress that republican abandoned a LONG time ago, I mean early in the 90s ... Over the last quarter century plus, they have been completely untethered by the constraints of statesmanship, and engaged in relentless hyperbolic attacks on the "Democrat" party and its elected congressional members. 99% of the time in a wildly exagerated manner and most often just making shit up.
Ds have spent all this time playing by the old unspoken rules, and what is even worse about it, holding back on just stating the obvious corrupt, hypocritical and insane shit that the Rs do, cause "decorum." This is their part in allowing this country to drift toward a chrisofacists idiocracy. Just take the friggen high ground that is yours for crying out loud!
Which is what Jeffries is going here ... This should have been the approach by ALL dems for decades now, don't hold punches and just lay out the the TRUTH of how ridiculous the Rs are. Cause people are that stupid, that they hear all the horrible things Rs say about Ds, and ESPECIALLY in the light that Ds don't counter, and think there must be something to that, while in the absence of calling out the Rs horribleness, people don't think they are are as horrible as they are.
AND NEEDLESS TO SAY, acting with decorum is not reciprocated by Rs, and they will be horrible to Ds if they do or do NOT call them out on their horribleness.
