PuckLast week, in my piece titled Bidens Inevitability Mythology, I reported on one of the more amusing Washington parlor games of latethe fact that a number of leading Democratic figures, like Gavin Newsom and J.B. Pritzker, are paying diligent lip service regarding their fealty to the president while quietly amassing political organizations of their own, in preparation for the possibility that Joe Biden suddenly decides not to run, or if another challenger breaks the seal, which would open the dam. Since then, I learned that Marianne Williamson, the spiritual activist and 2020 candidate, has been actively making significant moves toward challenging Biden.
At a party in L.A. last month, Williamson spoke about her position against corporate Democrats and the need to challenge Biden. Two very reliable sources have also told me that Williamson has already put out feelers to donors and secured an exploratory committee campaign tab on Act Blue. She has visited New Hampshire, South Carolina, and Iowa (before the decision to nix Iowa from the primary lineup). Shes already trying to build an operation in South Carolina where staffers are reaching out to former Bernie Sanders alumni to see if theyre game. (Williamson declined to comment.)

(2,186 posts)She had an interesting perspective. But I think Joe may be the best president we've had in my lifetime, although I also liked Carter & Obama, of course.
But I don't think she would be taken seriously b/c she's a woman and has very progressive ideas. Not sure she could plug away incrementally but persistently like Joe. Joe has the experience in government. We saw what a lack of experience, driven by hate, could do.

But she's not crazy either.

(2,186 posts)She's not a bad person, doesn't have bad ideas. But lacks experience and political polish. The machine would devour her.

Because she promotes nonsense that gets people DEAD.

(2,186 posts)I'll admit I wasn't that familiar with all her ideas, so I read up a little in response to all the "She's crazy!" responses people were piling on. There's a NY Times article that kind of debunks all the nonsense about her. Seems like a decent, smart person to me. But obviously would be destroyed, so I'll stick with more polished candidates.
She's not anti-vax or anti-science (again, according to the article; I guess I don't know as much about her as many of you) and, based on my experiences with loved ones with serious illnesses, doctors often spoke about the power of positive thinking, etc. When she mentions such things, people be like "She said you can cure cancer with daily affirmations!"
So I can't believe I'm defending someone I know so little about against people who seem to know equally little about her. I should be off cleaning the house.......

(1,766 posts)She believes all kinds of ridiculous woo. She's anti-science, anti-medicine, and anti-vax (and that was BEFORE Covid). She has the insane notion that disease can be overcome with "visualizing being cured," and "positive thinking," which is exactly what she has told gay men to do to combat AIDS. She puts conspiracy lunacy on the same footing as legitimate scientific research.
This is stupid and DANGEROUS.
Voting for that wacko would be like voting for a stupid Oprah.
Even down here in woo-addled Y'allsville, the locals would get one look at her and say, "Mama be crazy!"
Her campaign is going nowhere and will go nowhere.

She threw her support to Yang.
She couldn't even beat Tulsi Gabbard in funding or support.

(7,288 posts)one of the most insidious characteristic attributes of a cult figure in my view, is their ability to speak about anything that is sort of widely accepted as true, but then fold it into something that is believed to be "true to the core" (with no evidence) by just enough people, which in turn draws just enough"believers" like is seen among religious cult figures, spiritual cult figures and then there's the carnival clown con artists that create a different variation of "cult" figure.
I would hope that this one gets nipped in the bud, and her agenda should be viewed as a serious threat.
Remember no one (including Republicans leaders) took tfg's initial campaign seriously back in 2015/2026
that experience should be a very important lesson to us all and never to be forgotten, no matter which party such a figure attempts to themselves.
