Ukraine defiantly celebrated Christmas. The tree above stands in the center of Kiev. The news today had stories of Christmas celebrations across the country. Soldiers together on bunkers. Families without power making do but standing strong. Young and old. A country united in a way that makes my chest heavy and my eyes wet as they endure.

11. I heard some Ukrainian women interviewed

about changing the date to December 25 for celebrating Christmas. Several Ukrainians now favor this as a move toward breaking from Russian influenced customs. They want to change the celebration date in order to identify more with most of Europe.

The job of the Malicious Intruder Removal Team is to ban people who join DU with the intent to disrupt. MIR Team members are volunteers, and they serve for a three-month term.

What an amazing people that I would have known little about had it not been for this conflict. But I feel so much sympathy and empathy for their suffering.
