Listened to the returns on the radio last night...

No tv or internet at home, and my phone is a "dumbphone", so how was I to watch the election returns. Then I remembered that I had an FM radio. After digging the antiquated old machine out, dusting it off and clearing the cobwebs from the speakers, I turned the hand crank and powered it up. Huzzah, success. I turned the dial to one of those "news talk" stations (the kind that carries programming like Rush Limbaugh) and sure enough they were reporting on the returns.

Hearing those hateful douchebags have to call the election for Obama was awesome. And hearing the local meathead Romney supporters who called in to the show all drunk and sad was the best part. The haters were/are pretty much in tears. Their words sounded like they were chewing dog poop.

The telling part of it was that the station did live feeds from each party's "camp". I live in GA. The democrats were set up at a public depot and several bars in Downtown Atlanta. The Republicans were holed up at a hotel in Buckhead (the wealthy part of Atlanta that fringes on the Northern suburbs). The Democrats seemed to be having a hell of a party even though R-Money took our state. The Republicans were mostly home in bed by 10.

They also did a live feed from the home of a republican couple watching the returns. They started off cocksure when the Bishop won GA and other southern states but seemed to get drunker and sadder as the night went on. At about midnight the woman gave some kind of slurred rant about how she "fearsh for our Rebuplick" (they then must have cut her mike off) and she went to bed.

. . . in their projections. My wife and I traveled across Las Vegas to a watch party and listened to the "Talk Left" station on Sirius and by the time we got to the party they were projecting that the president had 243 electoral votes versus Romney's 183. When we got in the party at 6:45 pm they had CNN on (ugh) because they "wanted real, straight, unbiased reporting." I thought to myself at the time that these folks were living in the past when CNN was still owned by Ted Turner and Bernard Shaw was still the anchor. Anyway, their projections were so far behind the radio. They had Romney at 72 electoral votes and the President at 62. And those figures stayed the same for a long time as they drew out their telecast to keep the suspense going I guess. I mentioned to the host and a few people what the radio had reported and to maybe change the channel to MCNBC but to no avail until later in the evening when a TV in the another room was switched to MSNBC. Funny they were also still behind the radio but better than CNN. MSNBC did call the election for the President way before CNN did though at about 8:20 PM. We all started cheering in the one room and rushed to tell the stubborn CNN watchers what they were missing. And CNN didn't declare the President the winner for another few minutes. Even FOX beat them by a couple of minutes. So, as we all know here at DU, CNN is wack.

10 minutes at the top of the hour for national updates. The local analysts were surprisingly ahead of CBS in projecting states for Obama, but they left it CBS call Ohio and the election for the president.

And it was fun to hear them going on about how "mathematically Romney can still win" for a while.
