their own story contained a quote by a Biden administration official that the usher was gone before the Bidens arrived at the WH. The official should have said Trump fired him, not Biden. WTF?

Trump wanted to fire him earlier (petty fucker was pissed that Harleth was soldiering on and preparing to do the transition), but Melania stopped it.

(14,276 posts)I distinctly recall being aware of that petty move by Trump the day it happened. Now our revisionist press is trying to blame it on Biden? They either have amnesia, an inability to read old news, or they are flat out dishonest.

name.
If she wouldve dug a little deeper she couldve had a story on the vindictiveness and pettiness of the traitorous administration. But nooooo, she writes a lazy half assed story.

(58,785 posts)The incoming presidents counsel called the White House counsel on Wednesday, according to a person familiar with the process, and said the Bidens planned to bring in their own person. Mr. Harleths departure was first reported by CNN. - Axios
This was a very unusual move for an incoming president, which I assume was necessary and justified under the special circumstances of this endangered transition of power.
In 2017, shortly after tRump was elected, he unexpectedly and shockingly fired the first (black) woman chief usher. Ushers normally serve for decades, but tRump himself was a "special circumstance."

(11,165 posts)In short, Obamas team worked long hours to prepare for a good transition. They made guides for each department and scheduled presentations for trump team members. On the first day of school they waited and waited but nobody showed up.
Perry, DOE, didnt find out right away that DOE is responsible for our nuclear arsenal! Hell, they built nuclear weapons in Texas when he was governor and didnt know it!
Were lucky to be here!

But over 1.2 million of us aren't here any more, one out of roughly every 275 Americans.

(9,223 posts)the position wouldnt have remained vacant for eleven months.
At 11:30 AM 1/20/21 Joe Biden had no power to fire anyone employed by the executive branch.
Hortensis
(58,785 posts)exact mechanism of removal of this tRump functionary? Advance notice meant that he was removed as of Biden's becoming president, not even allowed to serve out the day, or the hour!, to be there to open the door for the Bidens.
Just one little part of the HUGE national drama playing out. Some secret service personnel and others were also gone from the WH and likely other parts of the executive branch immediately upon transfer of power.
rsdsharp
(9,223 posts)when the Secret Service covering Biden told Meadows that the Usher had personally delivered White House blueprints and other materials useful for the transition in violation of orders not to. Melanie talked them out of it, and Trump took his revenge on the way out the door.
Hortensis
(58,785 posts)Appropriate that the usher would be stabbed in the back by tRump, of course, for being tRump's guy.
Melania wouldn't care of course when she brought in one of their hotel managers to replace the fine person they fired , but that's a position of honor, and chief ushers are traditionally scrupulously apolitical as they serve a series of WH occupants.
