Elon Musk's management style stinks. Literally.

What’s Gone at Twitter? A Data Center, Janitors, Some Toilet Paper.

The data center shutdown was one of many drastic steps Mr. Musk has undertaken to stabilize Twitter’s finances. Over the past few weeks, Twitter had stopped paying millions of dollars in rent and services, and Mr. Musk had told his subordinates to renegotiate those agreements or simply end them. The company has stopped paying rent at its Seattle office, leading it to face eviction, two people familiar with the matter said. Janitorial and security services have been cut, and in some cases employees have resorted to bringing their own toilet paper to the office.

-snip-

Last week, Twitter got rid of the cleaning staff at its New York offices and 10 people from corporate security, signaling that it may close one of its two buildings there, said two people familiar with the move.

At Twitter’s San Francisco headquarters, where the company has missed rent payments, Mr. Musk has done the same, consolidating workers onto two floors and closing four. He also canceled janitorial services this month, after those workers went on strike for better wages.

That has left the office in disarray. With people packed into more confined spaces, the smell of leftover takeout food and body odor has lingered on the floors, according to four current and former employees. Bathrooms have grown dirty, these people said. And because janitorial services have largely been ended, some workers have resorted to bringing their own rolls of toilet paper from home.

-snip-

The article suggests that the Sacramento data center than Musk had shut down suddenly on Christmas Eve might have been able to prevent the service interruptions a lot of users experienced on Wednesday. Twitter's employees who'd expressed concerns about that sort of problem before the data center was closed were told that saving money was the priority.

… felt the need to correct me. I thought that the idea of a self-aggrandizing patently unqualified asshole running for president, third cycle in a row, would either get a chuckle or get ignored. Turns out I should keep that sarcasm emoji within reach.

Cheers!

He's expecing people to work in bad conditions and work so many hours they have no other lives. Eventually somebody is going to crack up and burn the place down.

stress and exhaustion don’t go well with the common cold, much less Covid. Even if they don’t end up in the hospital it won’t be fun, and I doubt if they’ll be encouraged to take sick leave.

Half the staff fired or quit and the other half working ill with a contagious disease…

Yeah, good job Elon.

Something is gonna blow.

to deliver cars by the end of the year.

https://democraticunderground.com/100217504507

https://www.cnbc.com/2022/12/28/elon-musk-tells-tesla-employees-to-ignore-stock-market-craziness.html

In the email, Musk thanked Tesla employees for their work in 2022, encouraged them to push hard for a strong fourth-quarter finish, and asked them to “volunteer to help deliver” cars to customers before midnight on Dec. 31, if at all possible.

During the last days of most quarters, Tesla enlists employees from all over the company to bring new cars to customers in order to hit or exceed stated delivery goals, work that in normal times is limited to people on the sales and delivery teams. The company has been aiming for 50% year-over-year growth in vehicle deliveries but has cautioned investors it may not meet that target every year.

That's not nearly as bad as having to clean toilets, but he's still asking Tesla employees to give up some of their holiday time to help him out when he hasn't hired enough employees.

Just as he started at Twitter by firing most of the staff and asking the others to work long hours and maybe sleep in offices.

He hasn't quite reached the point where he demands that employees aka wage slaves consent to being chained up in dungeons, living in their own filth, but you have the impression he'd like that employment model.
