Two horrific videos, one root cause, perhaps
Today, we got video examples of two horrors - one in the east, one in the west. Paul Pelosi was a victim of the stochastic terrorism culminating with the presidency and aftermath of TFG. MAGATs have been and continue to be weaponized - and having a host of election deniers still serving their positions is itself a crime.
The Tyre Nichols videos, which I forced myself to watch - all four of them - in their entirety (to make it clear what all of us who are decent are up against) - is indicative of fear and hatred of "other", how power corrupts, and how fear makes everything worse.
One possible root cause is that we've not moved all that far from the Civil War - and that plays in to the MAGATs.
Many of us could be living in a peaceful, protected bubble that we've created for our own sanity. Many cannot build that protective bubble because they are in the very eye of the danger that hatred and fear create.
But make no mistake - we, as a species, are deeply flawed. We can cover things up, make them pretty, some attain great wealth and power. But that doesn't fix the flaws that seem to be embedded in our species.
I am going to bed horrified, and sad - and wondering what horror will happen next.
All I know is that those in the Nichols videos are the monsters, unmasked - unhinged, violent, dangerous - and worth of all of our hate.
