Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is set to step into a larger role on the House Oversight Committee this Congress, perhaps even its No. 2 Democratic spot.
An elevation to the vice ranking member position, while its not yet final, would give the well-known third-term progressive Democrat a high-profile perch to tangle with Republicans on a laundry list of controversial investigations theyre planning on topics ranging from Hunter Bidens business dealings to the southern border to GOP efforts to probe the origins of the coronavirus.
Theres been conversations, but nothings been finalized, Ocasio-Cortez said in a brief interview Friday when asked about her interest in the partys No. 2 position on the panel, which is sparking open discussion among her fellow Democratic lawmakers.
Should Ocasio-Cortez become vice ranking member, shes also likely to take on more responsibility in helming Democrats messaging and strategy on a panel thats stocked with some of the House GOPs most rhetorically rowdy conservatives, including Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.). Thats in part due to the cancer treatment that Oversights current ranking member, Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.) is currently undergoing.

(1,309 posts)I was skeptical of AOC at first, but she has proven to be an exceptionally gifted politician - in the best sense of the word. She is absolutely fearless in dealing with the right wing buffoons in Congress. She has a great future ahead of her if she can mentally and physically survive the attack dogs on the right. I wish her all the best.

She's got a lot of potential, glad she's learned the ropes to go against republicans not other Dems.
