Mayor Eric Adams is renewing efforts to promote New York City as the best place to host the 2024 Democratic National Convention by releasing a new TV ad campaign to put pressure on Democratic National Committee members.
New York is one of three cities under consideration, in addition to Atlanta and Chicago.
Rev. Leah Daughtry was the CEO of the 2008 and 2016 Democratic National Convention Committees and is now working with the Adams administration to promote the city as the next convention location.
Daughtry, who is the only person to have managed a Democratic National Convention twice, joined Errol Louis on Inside City Hall Tuesday to discuss the bid.

(8,144 posts)--and I do--the better politics would be to schedule the DNC in Atlanta.
Georgia will be in play in 2024. Pouring all that time and money into Atlanta will help swing it to our column, and it's best to work for every Electoral College vote we can get.
If it gets to the point where we need to shore up New York state for fear of losing it, we'll be facing an election disaster on a level with Mondale '84 and Dukakis '88.
BTW the same goes for Chicago. Illinois is already in our column. Much as I love the city, to me it makes better political sense to put our resources where they'll do the most good.

The convention itself won't get much attention other than the speeches of a few people.

(7,881 posts)It's not about just the convention itself, it's about the extra spending and resources that will inevitably go into the state, which are then used to bolster GOTV and other election efforts.
You should go read up on articles about the indirect impacts from conventions like these.

(8,144 posts)Having a convention in whatever city brings our best political operatives to the scene. It pours money into the local economy and garners considerable state-wide media attention. It also gives a boost to local activists, raises the excitement level and stimulates volunteer recruitment and fund raising.
And considering all that Georgia has done for us these past cycles--giving us the Senate--it would be a nice gesture of appreciation for the progressives there who worked so hard to deliver those victories.

They blew their Gerrymandering opportunity which cost the Dems House Seats
Gov Hochul's fight with the party to push for her nominee, a conservative Chief Justice
The Election of George Santos
Mayor Adams has had mixed reviews to date since his election
There are many cities that would be a better choice than NYC for our convention in my opinion.
