No one claiming to be a conservative could justify a YES vote, Rep. Bob Good tweeted Saturday night.
That view was not unanimous within the group. But GOP Reps. Jim Jordan and Warren Davidson, both Freedom Caucus members, liked what they saw of the deal.
And McCarthy, speaking to reporters, touted that the deal had historic reductions in spending, no new taxes, no new government programs and would make reforms to lift people out of poverty, referring to the adjusted work requirements.

(22,829 posts)This is a great deal for Biden and everyone knows it. Just need to keep hush about that until its voted on.
And Dem leadership needs to call all their members. Tell them to put on a good poker face and then vote in unison to pass. Let the Reps eat each other.
There were some reps who seriously wanted to see the country go over the cliff because they thought they could benefit politically.

I'll be quite disappointed in any Ds that stray. (and there will probably be a couple - you can always count on a few 'idealists' and adolescents in the room) But the larger picture is - people that love their country - don't try to crash the economy, or overturn elections. It's pretty simple. And that's the real takeaway here.

(5,308 posts)impossible to please. Both the far-right and the far-left need to get a grip! If this is the best that could come out of such a divided government, it's not so bad because now our bills WILL be paid. Budget arguments can be saved for another day. In my view.....
