Arizona and the Votings Rights Act

SEC. 12. (a) Whoever shall deprive or attempt to deprive any person of any right secured by section 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, or 10 or shall violate section 11(a) or (b), shall be fined not more than $5,000, or imprisoned not more than five years, or both.

How many counts of conspiring to violate the Voting Rights Act should Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer and Secretary of State Ken Bennett face?

The Voting Rights Act is pretty clear that the Attorney General has the prerogative to intervene to prevent violations and to conduct a thorough investigation to ensure that the law is followed.

This needs to go to Court right the heck now.

While half the nations body politic is in a tizzy about the CIA Directors private affairs, the State of Arizona is conspiring to deny the right to vote to hundreds of thousands to Arizonans on the basis of race. An army of lawyers needs to descend on Arizona. I'm officially outraged.

I just wouldn't expect an answer.

I mean who could believe that in a state with an established legal past of racial discrimination certain office holders would conspire to create an election process that would target an ethnic group for voter suppression through direct disenfranchisement that all indications suggest would produce a desired political result?

Those who cast provisional ballots must go to their county election office to show ID.
